So, if I bought a book that was sold by Ewert originally, but I'm now the second or third owner...who is accountable?

I just bought an Ewert book less than a year ago because CGC wasn't proactive in helping to get these books a clean bill of health. At the very least if they communicated the books to watch out for then I can assure myself that I am not buying an Ewert special. Until they do so, there are 3,000 or more books floating around in collections that may be tainted.

And the problem will be shifted to the next buyer.

I'm a big CGC fan and a purchaser of high grade books, but how are their non-actions in COMMUNICATING (much less resolving) this to people like me that depend on their service going to stop the bleeding or increase my confidence?


Who is accountable you ask? Well, I also bought a Ewert book (actually several) less than a year ago. And to a large extent, I am accountable because these books were on a list that I found published right here on the CGC Boards but I got lazy over the past couple years about checking purchases against that list.

Even if CGC had communicated the list to the owners of the books that I bought, I don't think it would have made any difference in my case because I am fairly certain that they already knew they had Ewert books when they passed them on to the guys that I bought them from. I don't know who owned your book at the time of the Ewert disclosure but I wouldn't automatically assume that any proactive communication by CGC would have made a difference.

And to say that CGC has been nonactive in resolving this is unfair in my opinion. Any repayment you get if it turns out that your book is trimmed is going to come from CGC, not the guy who trimmed the book. Consider that. You and I both would be left without any option for recompense if it wasn't for CGC so I am grateful for what they have done.
