That would make too much sense.
A bodybuilder physique is almost always mutually exclusive with great acting ability...I'd much rather they go with a better actor. Hardy looks like a solid actor to me, better than any bodybuilding actor who comes to mind.
Bryan Singer picked Tyler Mane to be Sabretooth in "X-Men" almost entirely because he's 6' 9" and the character in the comics is 7', but he ended up having to compensate for his lack of acting skill by taking away most of his lines, which is unfortunate given that the comics Sabretooth has always been a vocal trash talker. Liev Schreiber did a much better job playing the character.
My main issue is that I'm a fan of Tom Hardy--loved him in "Star Trek: Nemesis" and in "Inception"--but Bane is failing to generate the slightest bit of interest in me. Joker and Ra's Al Ghul did generate interest for me during the trailers based upon what I could see of Ledger and Watanabe/Neeson, but Bane hasn't inspired the faintest glimmer of interest in me. I rank "The Dark Knight" as the best comic book movie ever and "Begins" as fourth best...I can't see this one topping either based upon the trailers. but my mind is still open. I'm a HUGE Anne Hathaway fan--she's just about my ideal body type for a woman and I've liked her performances in "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Brokeback Mountain", but she's not doing much for me in the trailers, either.
And they end both of the last two trailers with that cheesy "this isn't a car" line? Since when is Nolan so about showcasing Batman's techie gadgets that he'd end a trailer with it?

I'm running under the assumption that the trailers haven't been edited very well, and that the film is really going to be amazing.
I recall not being very impressed with the 'Inception' trailers either, and waited to see it until after everyone got all hot and sloppy with how good it was (it's now one of my favorite movies).
I agree with you both that Bane and Catwoman aren't well defined in the trailers but to be fair, Bane has a mask on in every trailer so without some time spent it's tough to get much across with no facial expression or language.
As far as Catwoman goes, we'll have to see. Anne is a decent actress and Nolan has a habit of knocking movies out of the park.
I think Bane is the perfect mix between build and acting ability in Tom Hardy. I'd much rather have someone a little smaller but much better at acting.
I'm not giving up hope on this one yet. Looking forward to it. It looks intense.

That was an exception. I mean how did they even choose Tyler mane in the first place. But I stand by what I said. If they spend a little more time casting, it would be a little better. Am I saying the movie will be horrible? No. I am saying that I think they need to make characters more visually appealing rather than relying on acting prowess alone for comic flicks. A combination of both would be awesome. Hardy should have at least went on steroids for at least 4-6 months before filming IMO.

+1 to all that. I'm happy with Tom Hardy as Bane. Nolan's films are supposed to have an element of realism to it - casting some huge bodybuilder would just seem like they are trying to re-capture the old Batman flicks. Besides - what Tom Hardy did with his body for Bronson and this film is pretty impressive considering he was much smaller in Star Trek and Black Hawk Down.

If I remember correctly, Tyler was cast a stuntman on the film, and when Bryan Singer met him, he liked him and cast him as the screen actor as well. A bit of trivia about Tyler is that he played Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's remakes of the "Halloween" films.
