Books you just cant find in the Wild

This was once wild:

IVnC0ta.jpg

I cant even find a raw copy of this book in the wild anywhere and I have looked hard for a long time. (worship)

Why? (shrug)

We have had this discussion before don't know why you are bringing it up again.

The book is hard to find simple as that and I will leave it that. You are wanting me to argue again about 1st appearance and I wont. I simply search this book out because I cant find it ever.

I didn't ask if it's actually hard to find, I asked why you were looking for that nothing book about which people like spreading misinformation.

But yes, any time that book is brought up, until everybody stops spreading the B.S., I will comment on it.

And I will tell you the same thing I told you last time you started this.

This thread isn't about arguing 1st appearances its about books that are hard to find in the Wild.

You have come in here looking for an argument for like the 3rd time I think.

There is no argument here this book is hard to find simple as that. I will continue to highlight it until someone shows me a stash of them they found somewhere.

I had to buy my first copy from a boardie here because I cant find the damn book in the wild no matter where I go and I can find a lot of books.

I get "wild" is not online, but there are 17 of these for sale on ebay right now. Not in 9.8 yes, I get it. There is one copy of Ghost Rider 92 up right now (although a few copies have sold in the last few months). I have to think availability online may have some correlation to whether these are easily found at shops or shows though.

Yes money brings them out. When a books is a tough find and there is a demand they will show up. 9.8s are what over $130 now and the book isn't the 1st appearance. Its just very very difficult to find anywhere. I find runs of Showcase all the time, but this issue is always missing. :pullhair:

Another one I can't find after being on the hunt over the last year or so is Solar: Man of The Atom #10 in very high grade. I lucked upon one 9.8 candidate in a dollar box that had just about all of the 90s Valiant keys you would want (non variants), all of these seemingly unread. All the other copies I've come across have been FN+ at best.

Another I seldom see is the last issue of Toxic Avenger from Marvel, I think #11. Not a valuable book, but I never see them.

I've come across several SMOTA #10s in 9.8. I finally picked one up for myself. Other VALIANT books I can't find as 9.8 candidates are:

SMOTA 4

Deathmate Blue Gold

Deathmate Epilogue Gold

Deathmate Previews

Vintage MRF 2

The Vintage MRFs were a huge PITA. I got lucky and found 1, 3, and 4 from a single seller.

What do we mean by "wild" here? I'm figuring 9.8 SMA 10s are in slabs if in dealer stock. Probably not the book sitting in mylar in a $10 box.

I found one in a dollar box. Was psyched, But it isn't a 9.8. Probably a 9.2-9.4.

My quick thoughts on this sub-topic:

1. Wild = not eBay, can be an LCS, HPB, show, but has to be in a "random" box or stack. If it's on the wall, not that wild.

2. Books you rarely see, not necessarily high-dollar books in a $1 box.

3. Books you rarely see, not necessarily a book you always find but here's one that's 9.8.

Again, *my* thoughts.

Oh, and no variants. :)

"i can't find a raw 9.8 of a $500 book in a dollar box" is indeed a weird qualifier here...well, it's a $500 book, a lot of those have been slabbed because it's a $500 book!

indeed, it is tough in 9.8..1/3 the census numbers of issue #1 despite #1 having a smaller print-run and #1 being barely worth slabbing (at current prices) and at current prices, if the 9.8s are out there, folks have an incentive to submit them (or sell them to people who do). the cover no doubt attracts slight damage as the number of 9.6s is 3X as big. it's not a book that was really "worthless" even after the valiant crash...certainly worth keeping in a bag with board even during the bad times.

nice book, scary looking seller at 8 feedback though.

*Edit

High feedback users on his 8 sales. Interesting auction. Those are the kind of auctions where you might get a better price because not everyone is willing to take a chance on the seller.

I've found raw 9.8's of $200-$250 books in dollar bins, slabbed em and sold em. It happens

*(of course that's slabbed price, not raw price)

I'm sure you have, it's just not that surprising if you don't. also, this is a book that's worth something raw in 9.2 as well, so it's even harder to slip through the cracks. there are plenty of books that go for $250-$300 in 9.8 that are not books of any real value outside of a 9.8 / 9.6 slab and if you can snag the super nice copy in the wild... These are all books that my LCS and many dealers at shows would likely price at $1-$3, maybe $4, regardless of whether they were NM or NM/Mint. They are all books I have bought in NM in $1-$2 boxes and I don't think they were in the box because the seller didn't think they were sharp enough to slab, just that they were issues not worth considering slabbing in any condition:

Here are a few:

ASM annual 21, longshot 1, Spider-Woman 1 (1978), X-Factor 24

I was gonna say that Silver Surfer Moebius series is in cheap bins everywhere, I never even thought about getting my PC copies slabbed. Hmmmm

------------

I was just going through CGC 9.8 sales at $300-$250 to randomly pull some examples. There were actually a lot of nothing BA books in there in that range, but probably not ones that would go in the bargain box, a shop or dealer would try to get 50-100% of guide for them. It's educational for me as well to see what books have popped. I really have no idea what $1-$10 raw book gets $200-$300 in a slab. And I know, maybe 1 in 50 "nice" raw books is actually a 9.8, maybe less, especially older stuff. But then again, with a press...

The hulk 330 sale was bad luck/bad scan. Someone else had a BIN popped at $85. So it's probably more like $70-$85 in a better auction. A few others are holding out for $180. I don't know what it regularly went for in the past though.
