Nice video man

Thanks man! Its hard sometimes to put yourself out there. Its a natural reaction to hate the way you look or speak etc. But, I am finding with practice im getting better at being comfortable speaking to the camera.

This practice started with my experience on Comic Book Men. To bad the transaction didn't make the show but it was a learning, teachable moment for sure being in front of a camera. (thumbs u

I assume for many of you in your mid/late 30s that Venom has a pretty special place in the memory of your youthful collecting days. I know he sure does for me. This weekend I was out in a part of Maryland I don't ever get to and decided to visit some shops. One in particular (Barbarian Comics) delivered. Such a great place, slightly disorganized and just the right amount of dust on the back issue bins. I've had this book on my "to buy" list for a while now and decided to treat myself. Happy to have this now proudly displayed in my home.

We are Venom!

Congratulations on finally snagging this copper age grail.

Such a great book. (worship)

Hey everyone. This is my first post on the forum. I just picked up ASM 300 for a great price in amazing shape. As it is, I think it could be a 9.6. I plan on getting it pressed and submit in hopes of a 9.8. Either way, I am super excited to have this in my collection:

How much more is a newsstand UPC copy CGC 9.8 W worth than a direct to store copy?

Is there a premium paid for the newsstand copy?

Usually, yes. But there's collectors like myself who also tend stay away from them because we feel like you are paying more for the same book. I recently bought an ASM 252 9.8 from MCS and didn't know it was a newsstand, or didn't read it in the description, no worries tho.

Actually, there's an ASM 300 9.8 Newsstand on auction on ebay right now, ends in 3 days IIRC. GPA on a 9.8 Spidey 300 I'll say is right at $1,000 even: 'free' GPA Link:

I tried the comic book men thing a few years ago for my walking dead set, I never got on camera. But I told them no as soon as they said I had to fly out on my own dime and no way of knowing what kind of low ball offer they'd give me for (at the time) the 3rd best set in the registry.

I thought the video was excellent, the only problem was the glare, just draw the curtains and you'd be set. The kid was a nice touch too lol

There's really no "premium" either way. Not enough people care.

I agree :)

will it ever be a "big deal"? Doubt it but it's interesting. (to me anyway)

While I would not seek out "newstand" editions just for that fact......"I" think that they look better in a CGC case than non newstands of the CA...... if it's a preference for you then to each his own...

I read somewhere or another that the ones with Spiderman in the box sold for more, but that was just a google search, I don't think there is that much of a difference for it to be in any kind of GPA but I wouldn't know :)

Pick a number... how many people need to care? Because this is a number: $1,600

http://www.ebay.com/itm/252619622987

GPA was $1,000.

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=252619622987

Four different bidders bid at least 35% "premium" over GPA. The final was 60% "premium" over GPA.

But like everything else where there's not (ever going to be) 100% agreement, let's just keep repeating... "Not enough people care."

Right.

That auction was shilled, and at best is an outlier.

Here are two other 9.8 sales of "newsstand" copies from the last month, one for $1000:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MARVEL-COMICS-AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-300-1988-CBCS-9-8-1st-VENOM-KEY-ISSUE-/232113007539?hash=item360b036bb3%3Ag%3AFh0AAOSwzaJX%7E8en&nma=true&si=qgYwxrvFOCf5e4Mw7iWlMzFOyNo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

and one for $900 (almost half the price of this last one??? :o )

http://item.ebay.co.uk/232105339278?item_hash4=8a5876d1&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&LH_BO=1&_ipg=200&_pgn=1&rc=nt&rmvSB=true

The first auction didn't mention "Newsstand" and is not a CGC book.

The second link was an accepted BEST OFFER, not an auction.

Four different bidders over 35% of GPA on the $1,600 book and you call it shilled.

What do you call it when a modern book goes for $3,000+ because of two high bidders? Shilly-shilled?
