Based on a toy and animated series, the film chronicles the adventures of 16-year old Max McGrath (Winchell) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel. As these two unlikely friends struggle to accept their oddly connected fates, they begin to uncover unimaginable secrets, working together to find the truth, and fighting the mysterious forces threatening their world.

Directed by Stewart Hendler (Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn) and written by Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World), Max Steel also stars Josh Brener, Ana Villafane, Andy Garcia, Maria Bello and Mike Doyle.

interesting I like the show but the trailer seems to be everywhere and not focus.

My feeling exactly. Was a huge fan of the TV series as a kid. This is NOTHING Max Steel except for the name. Where is the spy aspect? N'tek? The Nanites? Not one "going Turbo?" Now it's an alien symbiont just sounds awful.

It also appears like marketing is a weakness right now for this film coming out this year.

‘Max Steel’ International Trailer Reveals First Footage of the YA Movie We Forgot About

Max Steel seems like a distance echo in the recesses of our mind, but the Mattel toy line turned cartoon turned live-action movie is apparently still alive. It was more than two years ago at this point that first-look images were released, featuring Ben Winchell as the titular teen titan. To confirm it’s still actually happening, a new Max Steel trailer has been released for international audiences.

It seems odd that we’ve heard very little about Max Steel for so long. At one point Taylor Lautner was in talks to play the title role. At another point, Open Road was planning to release the film in 2015. It’s now a year after that hoped-for slot, and Max Steel will apparently be released in the U.S. on October 21st. You’d never know, though, since this is the first footage we’re seeing just two months before it will supposedly (according to IMDb) hit theaters.

What we do know is that Maria Bello plays Max’s mom, Andy Garcia plays Dr. Miles Edwards, and Josh Brener voices Steel.

First Max Steel U.S. Trailer Released

The first U.S. trailer Max Steel, the live-action adaptation of the popular toy line and TV series, has been released.

The film follows 16-year-old Max, who has hidden powers that when combined with an extraterrestrial friend, Steel, produce "the universe's most powerful energy." The two join forces to become super hero Max Steel, a robo-suit-wearing hero.

Direct Stewart Handler describes the film as being Friday Night Lights meets Marvel.

”It’s very much designed to be grounded within the teen experience,” said Handler in a recent interview. “Besides, I’m a sucker for coming-of-age stories that [relate] how difficult it is to be a teenager.”

As far as the long (long, long) production and post-production window, the filmmaker told Yahoo!, who debuted the trailer, that it wasn't a problem with the movie as some had assume that delayed its release.

"I wish it was something sexy and interesting, but it really just comes down to paperwork and release date," Handler said. "It just took a second for them to figure out what date they wanted it on, and find the perfect window for it. It’s Mattel’s first movie, and [the movie’s distributor] Open Road is new, so the handshake took a minute. But now it’s onward and release-ward."

Weekend Box Office Forecast: 'Max Steel'

The final new wide release of the weekend is Open Road's Max Steel, which has traveled a bit of a lengthy road to release. The adaptation of the Mattel action figure was originally slated to star Taylor Lautner back in 2009 before he jumped ship to the now-scrapped Stretch Armstrong feature. Ben Winchell ("A.N.T. Farm") ultimately stepped into the title role and production on the feature was completed back in May 2014 yet it wasn't until August of this year that the first trailer dropped and while IMDb page views show significant interest upon the trailer's release that interest quickly faded. All that said, finding comps isn't simple, though something like Ratchet & Clank earlier this year seems a safe enough comparison to make, suggesting an opening weekend in the $3-4 million range, though should it finish plus-minus $1 million on either side of that range we wouldn't be entirely surprised.

Ouch!
