X-23 D'O #1:

http://outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed.ebay.com/outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337214861&toolid=10001&customid=CGCForum&mpre=http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-23-1-CGC-9-8-SS-Signed-by-Stan-Lee-Gabriele-Dell-039-Otto-VARIANT-Cover-WOLVERINE-/201519706299?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255

This one seems to be taking off like mad.

And now a non-cgc X-23 #1 D'O book just popped up for a cool $2K OBO on ebay.

Why is this book "worth" so much? Just because people like the cover? It makes no sense for a variant cover with manufactured rarity to be worth more than the character's first appearance. My 2c , but what do I know?

lol It happens. A lot. But rare variant hunting is a different market than first appearance collecting. The ASM 678 VenoMJ goes for more than the first appearance of either character. The Wolverine/Deadpool cover goes for more than the first appearance of Deadpool, and even a Hulk 181 in every grade except 9.2 and up. The UXM 510 sketch goes for waaaaay more than the first appearance of Psylocke, and evidently even an X-Men #1 in low grades. You get the idea. In this case, X 23 is a relatively new creation and there are literally thousands of 9.8 slabs and 9.8 candidates out there of Nyx 3 in circulation, and let's face it, that X-23 Dell'Otto is probably the best depiction/cover of her that has ever been done to date and it has the additional benefit of being a "#1".

Manufactured rarity or not, there are some modern variant hunters out there that would rather have this variant than x23s first appearance .

I think it's safe to say that if you are paying $1,000 for a Modern character, you probably already have their 1st appearance.

Liefeld is a lot better than he used to be.

But these are net heating up. Cover price is $50 + shipping and still available from the shop.
