I placed THIS just-listed auction on my watch list, with the bidding at $100. I check my eBay watch page after a couple of hours and find it's up to $1500 already.

PCH still very much a draw...

I love it when lowball end-the-auction-early offers get posted publicly. lol

Yeah, I saw that (always amusing). Vindication for the seller couldn't've happened much quicker.

.... and one buyer was brought close to guidance immediately. How would you guys grade the book???? 6.0?

Looks like it has a sub-crease. You can see it start above the "A" in "Mask" and end under the guy's face. Hard to tell what the grade might be without better pics.

Yep. I thought it was a 5.0 that presents well.

Definitely presents better, but I'm topping out at 5.0 also, maybe less.

I've found sub creases have usually resulted in the ninth circle of hell opening up in the CGC grading room...I've submitted some beautiful GA books with light sub creases, great colors, PQ, better corners than this - all came back 5.0 or less.

That being said the crease here appears light, but given the way the photo was taken I fear it may be worse.

I was outbid on all of mine..... and one interesting thing I noticed, the winning bidder on each of those lots was a different person. Looks like a pretty healthy market to me. GOD BLESS...

.... from a distance, the Atlas market can seem strange and erratic, but I think that may be due to the sheer number of issues available with a lot of people focusing only on a couple of titles or seeking out specific issues by personal preferences. Very few people can afford high grade runs, so many will grab favorite examples for a representative set..... especially with high grade. If you're lucky enough to have your eye on an issue that the prime players already have, a reasonable price can be found even though it would "seem" that a book would be cool enough to generate high prices. GOD BLESS...

I won the Menace 3 and 11. Bidding was aggressive for mid-grade examples of many issues that aren't all that rare, but comics4less is a great seller to buy from ie grading is accurate, no worries about possible resto, etc. Sometimes people pay more for a little peace of mind, though I've notices lately even random sellers with "estate" find books are getting good numbers on Atlas books, even with fuzzy scans.

It's a rough time to be an Atlas collector on a budget these days.

I think this is a great point- that if the "prime players" have attained a certain book and no longer chase it, prices can seem to vary widely on many books. Although, lately, with Atlas horror it seems that there is a "Hydra" effect, satisfy one collector and there are two more in its place to bid on the next copy of Spellbound 3, Mystic 18, etc. I think that sometimes when a book attains a certain price point (the prices we have seen lately on books like Spellbound 17 and Mystic 18) they;re never going to settle back down from stratospheric prices because it has been established from several sales that numerous collectors are willing to pony up to attain these issues that have suddenly been deemed as classic covers whereas just two years ago they were merely "cool" covers.

I agree prices on certain books that shall remain nameless will not "settle" too many will buy certain books in any condition at just about any price. For example menace 11, I have a copy but was still bidding on that one.

..... and let's face it, with the preponderance of covers that sport deep, rich, color schemes, a nice solid Fine or better can be a real mind blower. If it's an auction house that offers time payments, and it's one of my favorite issues, then GPA high is my tracking bid. I'm glad to see there are others out there who like these things as much as I do........... GOD BLESS....

In the last 8 years I've come across 2 really nice PCH collections of which I sold everything.

If I come across a 3rd collection in the next few years I believe I will be keeping the cool stuff.

....they do grow on a fellow. I started wanting one nice example, a favorite, from each genre. This quickly became five from each genre. Then I lost count :insane: GOD BLESS...

I did post this in the Comics Market section but not a heavy traffic area at times.

Ebay seller comics4less has over 600 pre-code/code horror auctions this week. I don't ever recall this many at one time on eBay from 1 seller.

comics4less horror auctions

Very impressive. Wish this collection had been around when I was putting my runs together. Might've saved me a lot of time. lol

I am always amazed at the volume of good stuff that Pete comes up with. A big dealer that somehow flies under the radar...

In the last few months, his eBay auctions have gone from worth checking out, to ballistic. There have been some great books listed over the last month or so, and now there's this 600 issue lot of Atlases.

It's all been down to hard graft and patience - eventually the great books turn up.

I just wish he'd opt out of the damn GSP... :pullhair:

Don't you have someone in the States wins could be shipped to who could then send them along to you directly?

I did! It's hard to find boardies who are prepared to accumulate packages on my behalf on a regular basis, which is understandable. Not too bad if it's only the odd one here and there...

As it happens, I won two books from Comics4less yesterday...

id gladly do the Canadian side of things for you if ever need be,my pleasure.

Now,here is one ive had for some time, but have not shared in years..and the PC is up...for now...

I have a random question for my fellow collectors of PCH. My collecting interests are all over the place: GA superheroes and large sized books, DC war and horror, original art, and of course PCH. Do you have a "sweet spot" for grades that you try to go by? This might sound odd, but for me, I generally try to get PCH comics between 5.0-7.0 if slabbed, and if unslabbed I try for at least a vg. I don't go for slabbed low-end books, because if it's what would be a 2.0 or 3.0, I want to be reading the sucker! I love the smell of old comics, especially when it's PCH. I have some outliers, of course, that are higher than my slab range, but I use that as my reference point. Am I the only one that does this?
