Mads Mikkelsen Reportedly Onboard For Doctor Strange Movie

The other day, The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Michael Stuhlbarg is in talks with Marvel Studios for a role in Doctor Strange and within that story they nonchalantly confirmed that Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has joined the cast.

That's pretty big news. In August, it was reported by Variety that Mikkelsen was for a villain role in Doctor Strange, but a month later Mikkelsen told MTime it was a rumor and was still waiting for a phone call from Marvel. Guess they gave him a ring.

Which villainous character could he play remains a mystery. Chiwetel Ejiofor is already slated as Strange’s archenemies Baron Mordo. Perhaps the dread Dormammu? Or maybe the devilish Mephisto?

I was watching him in Casino Royale last week, and wondered why he hadn't done a comic book movie.

:whee:

Rumored Doctor Strange Plot Details Revealed

"The "Doctor Strange" movie actually starts much earlier than anyone expected, opening in 1968 Kathmandu where some Zealots of dark magic manage to open a portal to another dimension. Leading them is a character named Kaecilius, a name taken from a character associated with Baron Mordo in the Marvel Comics.

We leave the mystery of magic in the 1960s behind to catch up with brilliant Stephen Strange in modern day New York operating on a gunshot wound. He's a brilliant surgeon who is a bit arrogant until one night, while chatting on the phone, he clips his car, causing an accident that damages his hands.

After several surgeries from Dr. Nicodemus West, Strange's hands still aren't healed enough to return to being a doctor. An encounter with magic (and sub-atomic particles) leads him on a journey to find the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), and when he finds her, she initially refuses to teach him.

That's what they're filming right now in Nepal, as there will be a scene in the movie where Cumberbatch's Strange gets his now-wild facial hair under control, and shaves it down to the classic Doctor Strange facial hair we're all expecting."

Has Marvel found its Iron Fist?

The news of Scott Adkins getting cast in Doctor Strange will certainly bring about speculation the actor is playing Iron Fist, especially following the recent rumors of Marvel Studios said to be putting a stop to the use of the character in the Marvel Netflix series. To add to that, with Iron Fist having a supernatural background, the character would fit in pretty well with Doctor Strange, which is more than likely spearheading the supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

James Gunn Thinks Doctor Strange Is Going to Be Visually Different and Exciting

"I like Doctor Strange, but I'm really excited about the new -script," Gunn said during a Facebook Live broadcast embedded below. "I like the -script a lot so I'm very excited about the movie and I think Scott Derrickson is going to do something very unique visually. In the same way that Guardians came in and was a unique visual take on the Marvel Universe that was very different from the stuff that came before it, I think Doctor Strange is going to be the same way. So I'm so, so excited for what it's doing for the Marvel Universe."

Marvel Said 'NO' To A Neil Gaiman And Guillermo Del Toro DOCTOR STRANGE Movie

:o

Currently, Marvel Studios is preparing to deliver a live-action Doctor Strange movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch. It's directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Jon Spaihts. But a live-action Doctor Strange film could have hit theaters nearly a decade ago. It would have been written by celebrated comic book writer and novelist Neil Gaiman and directed by fan-favorite Guillermo del Toro. Of course, Gaiman and del Toro met with Marvel years ago, likely, well before Iron Man (2008) was ever released in theaters. Had the fledgling studio actually greenlit a Doctor Strange movie back then, it's very plausible that it could have went the Ant-Man route and been perpetually delayed and ultimately re-written.

While Marvel Studios may have only recently announced the start of Doctor Strange's production, set photos taken in Nepal confirmed that the Phase 3 movie has actually been shooting for weeks. Now, as more details come out, Sinsiter writer C. Robert Cargill has taken to Twitter to confirm that he's spent the past year working on the screenplay for director Scott Derrickson.

Since Dr. Strange was a solo Ditko creation, I wonder what he thinks about this - if he thinks about it at all.

.... I'm not sure how solo it was...... Dr Droom, which predated it by a couple of years(Amazing Adventures 1-6), had a lot of the same elements. GOD BLESS...

The cover to the latest Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first officialy look at Benedict Cumberbatch in costume as Doctor Strange.

According to the reveal article, Cumberbatch hasn’t been in costume very often on set just yet. Filming only began in November, and isn’t set to wrap until March, so Cumberbatch took the photo shoot as an opportunity to practice Strange’s signature, arcane hand gestures.

“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” Cumberbatch says. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
