Can't I respect both indigenous peoples and Christopher Columbus? Does it have to be one or the other?
They both have plenty to offer.
I agree. Columbus changed the course of events of western Europe and deservers a place in history for that.
I am very tired of the politically correct people who want to re-write history. Many of them don't understand the concept that you can't pull a figure from history out of context of their times and apply modern values to them. This is what has happened to Columbus and will happen to many other figures who changed the human condition for the batter.
At the same time these self appointed historical experts fail to acknowledge that their heroes were guilty of politically incorrect acts as well. "Indigenous people" were guilty of massacres too, some of them against their own people and others against women and children of the "invading race."
There blood and guilt on all hands. No human being and no group of human beings is perfect.
