I think the alien mind control has gotten to this forum this weekend...

So, one joke cover is OK, but two means I don't like the thread...I see...

(I think somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed today.) :sumo:

Ya know, some of us don't take FUNNY BOOKS that seriously...

and i don't think the OP does either, not with firsts like these..."Last time Subby uses a giant screw as a weapon?"

Or "First Timely Zeppelin cover?"

Or "First time Cap doesn't have his shield on a cover?"

Really?

Jeeze, Brian, you're really on a tear this weekend. Don't you have some snakes or lizards to watch?

FIRST cover I've posted in this thread...

rifleman10.jpg

The funniest part of that cover is "a mysterious bag holds the secret." Looks like a kid holding a log to me. Is that a secret log perhaps? The Captain's log?

Very mysterious.

The dark stain in his pants doesn't help either...

Dell Publishing was a force in those days.

Haha my

"Last time Subby uses a giant screw as a weapon?" comment wasn't serious, I think it's silly he didn't just use his fists.

As long as silly "firsts" don't discourage real ones then I don't care.

It may be dull, but I do find it interesting that an artist would draw Cap without his shield. Off the top of my head only one or two other GA covers come to mind.

I love Zeppelin covers and wish there were more from Schomburg.

Also, I think I did get up on the wrong side of the bed that day.

Those funny books are some the best ones, so it's nice to see em.

Action 7

First time the word "Superman" was printed on a comic book's front cover.

Very cool Prime!

I love these types of details. Is this the first time he's shown flying as well?

First (only) Buck Rogers cover on Amazing Stories (2nd appearance of Nowlan's character)...

What's the first cover to have Buck Rogers?

Do you think they'll ever reboot the character?

First depictions of germ warfare and...

Not sure if that is correct. This Skyman 2 cover depicts a germ warfare scene.

The Purple Plague story in Action 19 predates both of these.... but I am not really sure if it was a weapon since it was more like genocide. :o

By the way, General Amherst was knighted by the queen for infecting the native American Indians with smallpox. History is kind to the winners.

That skyman find is really cool! Thanks!

I believe this cover from '29 to be the first. Both of Nowlan's Amazing Stories pulp stories predate the newspaper comic and other work derived from the comic strip's popularity. Reboot? Probably, revisionists are always looking for fodder to reinterpret.

They most recently tried in 2009, Dynamite Entertainment:

I only read the $.25 issue. Wasn't a bad start...

Also, there's a new movie in the works that will adapt Nowlan's original story from Amazing.

And along those lines, first Buck Rogers cover in Famous Funnies. Many years before the Frazetta ones.
