Hey Marty,

Love your thread and your books. That's a cool GA Batman. The colors and gloss on almost all your books just pop. Very vivid and bright. Do you know why some of your books contain a bottom rusty staple? How were these books stored over the years ( or should I say decades/centuries? I'm very curious to know.

Thanks,

SLR

Thank you for your kind remarks!

From 1954 until early 1970 my books were stored in cardboard boxes from the supermarket

in less than ideal locations...I'm sure moisture seeped into these boxes over the years.

I also had a box get wet while being moved and the books inside had to be dried individually.

You have to remember these were "my comic books"...not collectables.

Again, thanks for your interest.

This, as far as I can remember, was one of the first covers showing another character

dressed as SUPERMAN.

That's an interesting observation.

Tough book to find because a friend of mine has been hoarding them for years.

I remember spotting this on the newsstand and thinking it had a different

looking cover...I believe this was the first time I had ever seen KERRY DRAKE.

I have that one and paid a little extra for it but it reminds me of this early Superman Sunday page. Everyone tried to get into the act but some don't make the costume look good. I wonder what Siegel and Shuster thought of their guy visiting the Third Reich.

I'm sure they were unhappy with a lot of things done to their creation over the years!

This is one that I haven't looked at for many years...forgot how the cover

had changed from prior issues.

There is someone selling a copy of this issue on eBay. He says it's the only graded copy. Apparently it's a scarce book.

There doesn't appear to be many graded copies of the early issues. I doubt that my #5 would

graded any higher than the 4.5 copy listed.

Here's one that I haven't looked at for awhile...picked this up at a Greyhound Bus

Station while traveling.
