This was 1998 -- back issues were a bit of a lull back then as I recall and these prices were a touch aggressive but not nuts. Go back and look at the price list for the Pac Coasts when they came out!

I re-entered the hobby in 1999/2000 and just missed this collection. Then, of course, bronze age genre books took off!!

Other and better collections have since come up, but they don't beat the allure and background of the Oaklands. I sold some of mine, but still have a few. They are lovely.

I realize this is an old thread but I recently purchased an Oakland book and have been researching the pedigree online. So far I found comicpressing.com and this tread. The summary on comicpressing.com mentioned the time frame (1967 - 72) and size (4,000 books), as well as the original owner picking these up a liquor store.

The summary also notes the collection being purchased in '98, consistent with previous comments on the this thread - back in 2012. Comicpressing.com did mention some collectors considering this a warehouse find. With some of you boardies being around to get the first shots at the buying, I wanted to know if any of you had more incite into this "warehouse find." How does one collector buying books off the stands at the time of release and keeping the condition consistent become a warehouse find?

I have the Oakland Copy of House of Mystery 202. I had it slabbed a couple of years back and it came back as the Oakland Copy with a CGC grade of 9.8.

You don't see too many of those anymore. I know it's about the book - which is very sold and vibrant - but the old label is a plus to me, especially since the Oakland collection was brought to the market a year or two before CGC opened.

You know the book is special if it's got the old label 9.8. You can see from the scan that it's just super sharp.

Indeed, if you have a CGC 9.8 without benefit of a press it is usually breathtaking in hand. Many of the Oaklands graded 9.8 the old fashion way. It is not a warehouse find. That's a stupid premise. It was OO all the way. Supposedly he would place the book on a towel and read them once, gently. The knock against the Oakland pedigree is the volume of books, not too many keys. Trust me, they are really nice books.

I have kept my Oaklands in their original mylars like this one, with the big label. All adds to the nostalgia but a pain for scanning. Mylar labels tend to lose their appeal on scans!
