Pre code poetry.. huh what? Grab a beer, sit, we'll chat and play bongos

Hello all. I have recently became inspired the last couple of months and have been dabbling in some poetry to reflect how certain covers speak to me. Most all have been pre code horror covers and all have been from the cover only and not the interior stories themselves. I would like to share one and maybe boardies can share how certain covers or comics inspire them in the form of poetry. Of course this isn't for everyone and I definitely don't consider myself a poet but it might be fun, who knows. I discourage "man from Nantucket" poems or the like!

First off is the classic Astonishing #30 with a unforgettable Joe Maneely cover.

Time slips, the mind rips, the body drips

Tick..tick..drip..drip

The eyes melt all you have felt, the hand is dealt

Tick..tick..drip..drip

Flesh sheds from the bones, gnashing teeth, earth and stone

Tick..tick..drip..drip

Always meant to be this way, everyone has their day

Tick..tick..drip..drip

No words of wisdom to befuddle, we all end up in a puddle

Tick..tick..drip..drip

I really,REALLY like this idea!

As self proclaimed board poet(just now) I salute this!Well done!Fun! Great inspiring!

I used to have a poetry thread going called ByJimmers....I'll have to dig it up!

Again!Awesome sauce with a side of right on and keep er coming!

As a little extra, the horror rock/punk band the Misfits swiped the cover to Chamber of Chills 19(Harvey) for their single Die Die My Darling, and the song may well have been inspired by.Most know, but thought I'd share.

Not sure about the song lyrics, but Alexisonfire,a 'screamo' band used the cover of Spellbound 18 on the bside single 'Watch out' Off topic a little, but just sharing.

I can't wait to see more, and hope others contribute..

Bats fly as the bloated moon blights

The sky; Under baleful light the

Graveyard is now a scene of frights

As ghastly gray-robed ghouls dig a

Pit. The unlucky passer-by

Makes a grisly guess as to whom

These fiends that reek of rotted flesh

Have in their sick minds to entomb.

He turns, so desperate to flee,

But quickly sees that here hope ends.

With bulging eyes he can but cry

As death’s shovel swings and descends.

What the hell, might as well... :insane:

When tax time came, they were unprepared

And there was no time left on the clock

The King recommended deductions shared

With basket accounting from His & 'R Block

Investments rise and investments fall

And those with an edge axe for more

Playing short odds can result in a call

The sharpest winners ending up poor

On Haunt's inside the national pastime ruled

Wertham's outrage could not've been redder

Claiming Satten's base touching no one fooled

'Cuz the cover advertised a double header

Fantastic and timed appropriately! These boards have Shakespearean talent. Keep them coming!

I've loved you for so long

The sands of time play a lonely song

You once held me so dear

Laughing, saying you'd always be near

But you had gone astray

And left me to die that fateful day

Still, my love, I forgive

At last summoned the power to live

Caught in a cold embrace

We finally do stand face to face

As my fear turns to lust

One last kiss as I crumble to dust

Your heart stopped as did mine

To complete this dark, grim valentine

I love that one! One of my all time favorite covers adds to the dark undertones of your love gone astray tale. Very, very nice!

Astounding%20Feb%201936.jpg

The explorers knew they’d met the unknown

When cave walls revealed a city of stone

All lit by strange glimmers of purple hues

That danced to song sung by a choir whose

Voices were not of any earthly strain,

Resonating deeply into the brain.

The giant glob with its crude arms of slime

And heart of hungry eyes flew fast at them,

And though they turned to flee they knew their doom

Would be one much weirder than death. The tomb

That rushed to its prey teemed with raw life. So

The gel took them, as soft as sprinkling snow,

Downy drifts piling slow till they smothered.

But the pair of ex-men were not bothered.

For at the thing’s first kiss, sweetish and warm,

Symphonies of bliss erupted in storm.

Make mine zombie!

A strange thought occurred to me

A zombie's life I dream to be

Pestilence, disease, pain, and strife

Does not impede a zombie's life

Life, death, heaven, or hell

Issues which a zombie won't dwell

Rent, bills, mouths to feed

Problems zombie never need

Work, savings, 401k

Trivialities zombie won't have to pay

The newest gadgets or latest fashion to wear

Zombie's appearance is of no care

Neighbors, greed, fear of ire

Only the pleasures of flesh stoke his fire

Race, religion, color of skin

Zombie shuffles free from sin

A strange thought occurred to me

A zombie's life I dream to be
