Also, didn't avengers #4 have a flashback appearance of Hienrich, before his actual " in" story appearance?

Yes. He appears as a featureless background character in one panel.

IIRC, you also see his hand in another panel.

The Avengers is on FX tonight!

Glad I nabbed my Avengers #6 not even a week ago.

I don't think they could've picked a better actor to play Zemo. Bruhl is brilliant and can give some amazing performances.

I suppose Avengers #6 is a safe bet, but I wouldn't sleep on the other books...

-Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #8. (Hit the shelves same time as Av. #6)

-Cap #168 1st Helmut as Phoenix

-Cap #275 1st Baron Helmut Zemo (Biggest sleeper to me)

So which book came out first? Avengers 6 or Sgt. Fury 8? Both the same month, I know info like this is scarce, but its a pretty important question.

I know the market has always ignored Sgt. Fury 8, as Avengers is the big title, and has the better cover.

Also, didn't avengers #4 have a flashback appearance of Hienrich, before his actual " in" story appearance?

I'd be buying all the cool undervalued SA DC pre 1968 keys in 7.0+. B&B and Showcase have a ton of cool books in the runs and who doesn't love Sea Devils and Metal Men and Doom Patrol and Challengers and .....

I want to personally thank the person who bought the My Greatest Adventure 80 7.5w slab in the last comiclink auction. Twin Cities ped, sure, but holy mackerel at the hammer price. That's a nice ROI for the person who bought it in the original HA auction back in '11

You're welcome!

I've had trouble finding the book (its been in my WTB thread for months). Its a tough key to find in HG, especially right now, and White pages to boot. On top of that, I had a few little books that sold in the auction that I didn't have much into so even at the price I paid, I was still happy to have it. And there was another person that bid it up to the same amount. But since that was my high bid first, mine stuck. I also picked up a lower graded copy a few months ago that's at CGC that I may use to offset the cost even more.

If anyone has any other copies in higher grade, please PM me (or any other books in my WTB thread)!

I've been looking up this sort of info via old Library of Congress Catalog of Copyright Entry books (which agree with your data here on this issue, of course), but your data there is handily formatted. What's the source of that?

Hi Mark,

Because these registrations were renewed by Marvel in 1992, they also exist in the current searchable Copyright database, which is handily formatted.

I was wondering why Strange Tales 146 is not hotter than other Dr. Strange appearances. It's Ditkos last appearance drawing him and the cover and story by Denny O'Neil is awesome. Perhaps it is more of a "collector" issue than a speculative one.

Cheers, Howard

yeah but its so far removed from the 1st appearance. We've had this convo before in that there just aren't any real great Dr Strange covers. Even the best of the bunch have a lot of cons to them

The first great Doctor Strange cover in my opinion is Doctor Strange #169. High grade, glossy copies of this just absolutely pop. I used to have a 9.0ish copy with eyeball melting colors, it was great.

One issue I think a lot of people completely forget about is Fantastic Four #27, which is the first "full" Dr. Strange cover - depending on what people mean by that - and only his second cover appearance ever:

Whoa. I slabbed a pretty sweet 9.4 recently. Honestly I was hoping 9.6 on it, but that 9.4 should get solid $.

I loved the covers on that whole run after 169, but alas, they have been sold twice (or even three times) over . . . :insane:

Totally agree one of my favorite covers, just pops and looks amazing. Has lots of room to grow as it is the last Ditko and is also the first appearance of A.I.M.

Pick them up cheap while you can,

Appreciate that.

So Avengers 6 it is!

I'm sure Fury 8 will get some love at some point. It's just strange since the two books take place in different eras, while being released at the same time!
