Woah !!!

This guy has just begun sharing his INCREDIBLE collection of Preacher covers (and a hell of a lot more quality works besides)

Always good to see a stellar collection suddenly appear from nowhere!

Take a peek, it doesn't get any better for a Preacher fan :

Simon is the original owner of all of the PREACHER covers (worship)

I'm glad he's finally decided to open a CAF account. He has A LOT of other treasures within his collection. :o

Almost all. AFAIK, he doesn't have #1.

But yes...very cool to get a glimpse at a legendary collection.

While not a steal, or even a cheap price, I also believe this would have gone higher with another venue. I just don't associate Metro (at least for now) with modern art. You and I talked about this page not too long ago, and I STILL forgot all about it. I would have watched it if I was tracking with eBay or Heritage.

So double congrats-- for getting the page, and at a decent price!

Thanks! At least Metro remembered to post it to CAF or I might have only been bidding against the reserve. I thought it was a pretty good buy...well...until I flipped it over and saw that original $55 price tag lol

First rule of collecting PREACHER art: NEVER, Ever, under any circumstances, look at the WSFA pricing on the back :makepoint:

Hahahaha. Man, I remember calling Wildstorm and buying Preacher pages by the stack. Compared to a lot of other comparable art from other series selling at the time for $100-200 a page, the Preacher stuff almost felt like stealing. Hell, I think I paid Mark Wheatley more for some of his color pages than I paid for an early Jessie half splash from WS. Definitely more than I paid for the 3 consecutive pages of Cass confessing at the bar. Can't remember the issue number, but I swear those were like $30 or $40 per. Anyway....

Jesus, THIS COVER didn't take long to make it through the revolving door.

Any predictions what the open market will bring?

At $10,361 the Vol 4 TPB cover featuring SOK went for quite a bit more than I expected.

From what I can tell, this is the only cover that sold when Simon P. decided to let some go. With all of the covers locked away "forever" there doesn't seem to be as much of a demand (at the asking price) as would be expected. I'm wondering if the collector mindset as a whole had given up on ever owning a cover and once they were made available the time had passed.

Admittedly, of the 70-odd painted pieces done for the series, I think only a half dozen would really garner any real interest. The rest would fall in the "I'd like to own that" category. But the ceiling for that category for the "average" collector is a lot lower than $10,000+

He sold a few other TPB covers, either before his CAF sale or just before he replied to my email. At the very least, Gone to Texas and Proud Americans are out of his collection.

Did the reseller make money? What was Simon's price on this?

$8K. It was a wide range of prices for the covers he had for sale, and this was the best deal (relatively speaking, of course).

Still, I'm with NSN...I was also surprised to see it go this high. I guess despite the vast majority of the covers surfacing on CAF, they are all still in one collection, so this must have been seen as a rare chance to own a cover.

I'm a huge PREACHER fan, but it's not killing me to own a cover. Part of it is what NSN said...they've been unavailable for so long (along with the circumstances of them being unavailable) that I simply never got the jones for one.

The other part is that there are only a tiny handful of covers that I'd pay up for. Unless it's one of those, I'd much rather get nice interiors. The pages have always spoken to me more.
