Action Comics #419, cover dated December, 1972 features a very memorable cover from fan favorite Neal Adams. What makes this cover unique is that it is also a partial photo cover, of a city background, highlighting Adams' original art of a flying Man of Steel. Action Comics #419 was edited by Julius Schwarts, with pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Murphy Anderson and story penned by Cary Bates.

What also makes the cover to Action Comics #419 so appealing is the title, The Most Dangerous Man on Earth! With a smiling Superman flying high, this makes one want to flip open the book to see what is inside.

Another interesting and unique element to Action Comics #419 is the back-up story included. The Assassin-Express Contract! Penned by Len Wein, penciled by Carmine Infantino and inked by Giordano, is the first appearance of the Human Target (Christopher Chance), a master of disguise and private detective for hire.

Many of these editions kept the red and yellow logo color scheme, some only used Adams’ superman drawing, omitting the photo background, while other editions kept the background.

Speaking of partial photo Superman covers, by Neal Adams. I accidentally bought two of these in an auction. But I'm okay with that.

whoa those are nice! Is it credited in these books on who took the photos?

would be very cool if those photos still exist

Since it credits Neal Adams and Murphy Anderson for the cover. Does that mean that Anderson may have taken the photo?

I don't have a raw copy to check for any photo credit. My guess is that it was just an old stock photo that was used, and perhaps no one knows who actually took it. Looks to be an early 70's photo though. So maybe Anderson did take it.

Is Anderson still alive?????

Next time I see Neal or Len Wein I'll ask if they know who took the pic....

Brandon, is it possible this may be a record in time from date of Action 419 to June 2013 as the longest period between publishing of same art on a cover?

This proves why this is a great cover....

TIMELESS in any Decade :cloud9:

How cool would it be to have this!?

Just noticed that this is the exact same cover image and acknowledged as such that was used for the $15 Silver Superman coin issued in Canada back in August. (thumbs u

I still prefer the Action 1 cover image that was used for the $10 silver coin, although it was a tad on the small side as compared to the other coins, especially the $20 one.
