Hey guys,

A quick question about books I want to get rid of.

Can I sell comics in the mixed-age or modern section that are adult only in nature?

I'm not talking about normal comics with nude sexy covers that I could hide or blur out, but rather full on hardcore comics (basically drawn porn)... such as titles from Eros comix, Eurotica...

Would that be against the rules?

P.S. Please don't judge me. I bought these a long time ago.... for the art.. of course.

I don't think there is an issue just do a good job blurring anything someone might find offensive or put the scans under spoiler tags and mention they are nsfw. People sell playboy on here all the time.

Is this just two people with mystery boxes using the same type of grammar, or one person copying another to skirt the raffle rules, or something more?

I don't know, but mystery boxes sure have come back strong.

If you read a few pages back, you'll see we talked about the first link. The second link is another person who just copied and pasted it and wrote some other stuff for what seems like a mystery/raffle prize

I am considering selling off my 2-3 short boxes of HG DC Horror Bronze Age mixed with some Marvel BA Horror (most in HG). All raw.

Now - should I do this now or wait a while? I know the BA Horror (especially DC) has taken a downturn.

There is a mix of a few 15 centers, good amount of 20 centers and good amount of 25-35 centers overall.

Grades are around 9.2 - 9.6 as they sit. No pressing on any so certainly room to grow.

I am also considering selling them for pickup only in the SF Bay Area - this would eliminate issues with grading since the buyer would actually have their hands on them

So - sell now or wait?

Sell as a lot or individually?

Sell as a pickup only?

Thoughts are appreciated.

The following is brought to you by Captain Obvious

In general, when books are down, it's not a good time to sell

Selling as a lot will get them off your hands quickly and all at once but will not net max profits.

Selling them off piecemeal is a pain in the rump but will net better prices overall.

If you can find a local collector who is willing to pay a fair price, that might be the best way to go.

I'll be completely selfish and say sell individually here because I'd like a shot at some of those.

Hey Pov,

I actually thought the market was fairly strong for these but maybe because I collect especially the DC horror books. Obviously I would love it if you posted here so we could take a shot at them.

I would for sure be in the hunt for some myself.

I guess a lot of it as you know is how much time and energy are you able to put into it. Lots of scanning, grading, posting for individual listings.

There's no guarantee that these will experience another market surge. Not to say they won't but predicting the future is hard work.

Sell as a lot or individually?

Selling individually is likely to produce the highest absolute dollar figure but there is much hidden value in inventory turnover and time cost. Also, the more individual sales that occur the greater chance of frustration with bad buyers. To me, selling in volume is almost always preferred, even when at a discount.

Sell as a pickup only?

Perhaps start there and then turn it over to the general masses. Pickup only would greatly diminish your market but is likely to generate the least amount of heartache. I'm not sure how robust the local comic market is in SF, though. Might be worthwhile to explore.

Thoughts are appreciated.

This is an example of why the number of people I deal with here are in single digits.

Float on...

You've got that right! (thumbs u

Sad that it has come to that. I understand why some people feel that way though.

I think I've got about 30 sellers here that can grade and follow through on posting - at least 30. Single digits? - that is way low.

Thanks everyone for the replies and the PMs. I am going to start with cataloging everything in a spreadsheet. See what I have and give me time to ponder a solution.

Solutions are for problems. You mean a plan of action!

;)

I don't blame people for being risk-averse but my positive transaction experiences by far outweigh the negative. I've had some buyers flake out on payment, some sellers take weeks to ship, and there's the endless stream of extreme lowballers, but these are all fairly minor issues. This is still the best place to buy and sell, and I include LCS' and conventions in that statement.

I would be happy to join you in that sentiment, but no one here is serious about buying.

Now, granted, I don't give my stuff away. My prices are high. But I sold a raw 9.6 Spidey #299 for $55 on eBay the other day. No one here will pay $55 for a raw 9.6 Spidey #299. Even with all fees, I still clear more than $48. I'd be lucky to get $30 for it here.

I sold a NM 9.4 copy of X-Men #114 for $65. A NM+ 9.6 copy of X-Men #106 for $100.

I just don't see the type of prices paid here that can compete.

I should amend my statement to say that the buying market here and the buying market on ebay are definitely different from one another. There are some books I won't bother listing here because I know they won't sell for a reasonable price. Conversely there are certain books I try to sell here first because, for whatever reason, they do well here but not so much on ebay. So there is some selection bias in my feelings on selling here but I do try to cater to the "tastes" of buyers when possible. In general though, yes, I rarely expect to receive my list price when selling on the boards.
