There was an issue in my community many years ago where a mailman decided he didn't want to deliver mail one day. He threw all the mail from his route into a dumpster and didn't work the rest of the day. Some of the mail was reportedly recovered after a person became suspicious about the mail in the dumpster. I know of one elderly person that had to have a check reissued because they never received it.

If USPS had to pay out for all these missing packages...they would do something fast is my guess.

Could just adding the insurance be a deterrent?

I'm was wondering having insurance visible on the mailing box makes it worst. Higher the insurance on the label indicates it's an expensive item.

Example; I got these numbers from the net.

$0.01 to $50 = $1.95
50.01 to 100 = 2.45
100.01 to 200 = 3.05
200.01 to 300 = 5.10
300.01 to 400 = 6.25
400.01 to 500 = 6.40
500.01 to 600 = 8.55
600.01 to 5,000 = $8.55 plus $1.15 per $100 or fraction thereof over $600 in declared value
(maximum liability is $5000)

A villain would definitely look inside the box if it has a high insurance coverage.

I'm covered through my Collectibles Insurance Policy for anything I ship. The $50 free priority insurance covers my CIA loss deductible.

And that mailman? Well, he was none other than.......... Nick Nolte's second cousin.

And now you know.... the rest of the story.

My book has been found. HT was correct. Just a mix up with scanning barcodes.

I've found them to be pretty reliable although sometimes their "tracking" doesn't track until suddenly the package is delivered. Sounds like what happened to you.
