I'm using GIMP.

Didn't know about GIIMP until now or I forgot about it. This seems pretty good and it's free. I'm going to download it tonight.

Right now I'm just using the HP scanner software to touch up my scans but ImageShack has some touch up features.

Downloaded GIMP, way too complicated for me lol I used to be able to do all this years ago. I've already got my images cropped during scanning, just want to stitch them together.

Will have a browse for a simple guide

GIMP is just the open source PhotoShop. It can be complicated, but it doesn't take too much to do something simple like stitching together some photos. If you need step by step just pm me.

Just got an 8300. I have a new computer with windows 8 and I could not get the HP scanning system to work. Vuescan also did not work. For some reason, with both tools the scanner would lockup while scanning 80% of the time. Finally just started using Fireworks, which I use to edit photos anyway.

How is this looking? Just standard settings at 200 DPI.

I had the exact same issue. But found this page on HP's support site that resolved all my issues for my HP ScanJet 8300

HP ScanJet 8300 Drivers/Software/Firmware

Once I updated the firmware (which the update resolves these exact issues) then updated the drive both VueScan and HP's scanning software worked 100% of the time.

Here's a scan from my HP 8250 I just set up, I played with the coloring a bit, I didn't want it too red or too blue. How does it look? Journey83_zpsfcce783d.jpg

The reds look off to me.

Just ordered an NEW HP Scanjet 8300 off of Ebay! Can't wait for it to arrive!

Wondering what is the best scanning software for this scanner, and what are the best settings for scanning slabs? What DPI, sharpness, etc...? Thanks!

Just looking on Amazon and that one gets some pretty scathing reviews. I hope it works out for you. :wishluck:

The reviews in this thread appear positive....

Also, most the reviews I read had to do with the software, not the scanner itself.

8 of the 14 reviewers on Amazon only gave it one star out of five. A number of reviewers seemed very dissatisfied with HP's customer service. But if you can use the expertise on the board to help with problems, you may be able to get around that. (thumbs u

Thank you all for verifying the scanner.

If you have an old HP 8250 that you don't use any more that still working, here is my WTB thread. I rather buy from someone from the board than someone online that doesn't know what I use it for!

Okay so here is a question for the scanner Guru's..I bought an older technology CDC HP 8300 flat bed the thing works great. However some scans come out perfect while on others the inner holder shows almost like it is not flat

Here are some scans any ideas on a fix? Change settings? So I opened the scanner and pressed down firmly and evenly on the case with my hands that's the ticket...

Not good
