-- Excerpt from The Hyborian Age - Conan 78

Red Sonja (as in Red Sonya of Rogatin ) appears in a historical adventure written by Robert E howard

knows as * The shadow of the Vulture * which takes place in 1563 . At about the time he was casting

about to find a counterpart for Conan whose future was not known (as apposed to Belit ) writer editor

Roy heard of and read that story. Thus instead of making up a character as he intended to do . Taking

equal parts of authentic hyborian-age heroin's Belit and Valeria (of the later Red Nails) Roy decided to

yank Red Sonya out of the sixteenth century change her name to Red Sonja and make her a she-devil

with a sword in the age of Conan

:)

-- From comic vine

Red Sonja first made her comics debut in 1973,

as a supporting character for Conan the Barbarian in his monthly series.

In her earliest featured story The Song of Red Sonja, drawn by Barry Windsor-Smith

By 1975, Red Sonja had become so popular that she was given a solo debut in the Marvel Feature title.

After headlining Marvel Feature for seven issues she was given her own title, which ran for another fifteen issues.

Artist Frank Thorne would become indelibly associated with the character during this run

**************

Collecting Red Sonja can be a lot of fun

Marvel reprinted everything in many books to maximize the profits

The list above covers the basic marvel Red Sonja

There were reprinted versions in UK and Spain that I know of

For the classic red Sonja you cant beat the early marvels for the sexy Red Sonja the modern Dynamite Entertainment

version is really well drawn

Enjoy!

Alright, nice job Gyro-1! Although I still think you should have gone mixed age with this. Some of the rarer Dynamite's can fetch quite a bit. A 9.8 #2 Frank Brunner SS just sold for $139.00, and it's not even a rare variant. Of course it was the signature that the buyer was after I'm sure. Still, some great artwork on that cover.

Hey, have you ever seen the virgin covers for Savage Tales 1 and 2? Arthur Suydam artwork is amazing.

So the She Devil With A Sword has her own thread now. This should be interesting. Hopefully it's not just you and I posting. Rock on!

Oh, and before I forget, Gyro-1 was the winner of the 2012 Best In Set for Marvel Feature Vol.2 Feat. Red Sonja. So give him some props! (worship)

Would be a good Idea if some one started a Sonja thread in *mixed age* as most of the Sonja books exist after 1980 and the most sexy covers definetly come in the 90s and on !

Its very hard to colect bronze age Sonja in high grade because of the very low # of books in CGC

Cross your fingers for another pedagree to apear soon

And it is very sad at how cheep the ray books are sold for ?

Happy hunting!

:)

Yeah, I saw that one yesterday. The last one on Comic Link went for $152.00 On 6/28/12, but the last few have been around and over $200.00. Believe it or not, I got mine for $139.00 as a best offer on eBay. So it's hard to say because there's not a lot of people going after these, but there's always the #1 issue collectors. $190.00 sounds about right, but I would be surprised if it went over $200.00. My guess would be around $175.00.

This could be the hardest to find red sonja (along with 19)

I am not sure it even exists in CGC

Yeah, I've been watching that one for months. I think it reprints Savage Sword of Conan #1 in color.

In case you haven't seen it yet there's this. Although I don't know why they're being sold as a lot. The 9.8 looks nice.

This would be very tough to find in 9.8 as well. There's only two on the census. She appears in issue #2 as well, but she's on the cover of #3 here. Art by Neal Adams I think.

These are from 2007 I think. Dynamite ran a ten issue series of Savage Tales feat. Red Sonja. Of course there's a billion covers for each issue, but these are the virgin covers for #1 and #2. Pretty hard to find, and usually the only ones to fetch anything more than cover price. There'a also a virgin cover for #3 by Stjepan Sejic, but not as sexy as these two.

Some one is INSAIN

http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=375551

I understand that Suscha News Collection is best of the best in the bronze age

and white pages count

BUT ITS 1 DAY BEFORE AUCTION ENDS !!!!!

Mercy !

$300 is more than the price it sells for on another page ?

earlyer on ebay a 33 sold for 224 then at auction 240

If this and the 24 go way above normal prices its looking like conan with red sonja may be taking off in high grade finaly !

This will be a fun auction to watch even though the books went over my budget !

:)

Yeah, I put in a bid on the #24, but was summarily outbid in an instant. Honestly, I don't care for the spine on it with the white stripe from the back showing on the front. I have seen better 9.8's. Still, I may put one more in before it ends only because at the current price, it's cheaper than any other one out there. I'm with you on the #33. Seems crazy, but stranger things have happened as you know. Like that Marvel Feature #3 on HA a few months ago.

OMG dont get me started on the #3 on HA !!!! hm

Ok I cant control myself !

In january it was all by its self living the good life its owner a happy person

Then the devil made his move and 2 more apeared to to upset the perfect universe !

OOO the shame of it all was to much for the owner so he rushed to HR and put it up !

Angels WEPT !

Well A lot bid on it including myself ! The Devil made his moves on me !! I was so weak ! I cryed and raised it ! some one beet me ! I cryed and raised it ! The shame the shame I bid 301 ! I knew that if the wife found out there would be a lot of shoes coming back from the mall ! The devil hes a sly one got the other bidder to out bid me !

Now this is were we found out how stupid I am -- I bid more -- the angels then wispered in my ear -- insufficiently_thoughtful_person STOP BIDDING THERE ARE 3 OF THEM !

So I was again out bid and the other person payed with fees over 180 more than I got another one on ebay month later !!

To show that the devil was involved the new owner put it back up for sale on heritage for $500

I dont care what anyone says Comic Colecting is FUN

:)
