Just far far too long without a custom title. Really. Seriously now. 2002?

Exactly--it's highly inspirational and beyond that extremely fascinating, but it may ultimately violate the spirit of putting people on equal competitive ground. It seems to force us to measure the potential of the human body against mechanical devices...that sounds exceedingly difficult to do, but probably possible.

Sports Illustrated had a great article this past week about him and the advantage/disadvantage argument. There are some things that may appear to give him a slight advantage in one aspect, but a disadvantage in other aspects.

They had more studies done (since 2008) to show it is not a distinct advantage. If it was a true advantage, why hasn't anyone else with the same condition posted times like he has? They did the right thing allowing him to compete, but I don't think he should also compete in paralympics. One or the other seems fair.

As for how he did, he qualified for the semifinals round but ran poorly and did not advance. I saw him run his qualifying race on Saturday. An amazing performance.

*spoon*...I'm boycotting Sports Illustrated for a while. They've had some sleazy journalism lately in taking quotes out of context to make them sound like they mean something else to create sensationalism out of nothing--like Fox News does all day long. They've been doing it for a while, but the last straw for me was the title of this article:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/web/COM1202244/index.htm

The title quote of "Honestly, I preferred New York" came from Jeremy Lin after being traded to Houston. Umm...yea, if you ignore the question the reporter actually asked, then wow, that sounds like he's unhappy about being traded to Houston, which is exactly the falsehood they wanted you to think to suck you into the article. \(tsk\) And oh yea--the article above never even mentioned the question he was asked to make it seem even MORE sensationalized, leaving you even after having read the article with thinking he wishes things would have gone differently. The question he was asked was "Going into free agency, which team did you prefer?"--his response means something totally different without hearing that question. Dozens of news sources reprinted Lin's response without the context of the question.

Sports Illustrated jumped the integrity shark at some point.

NBA pros in the olympics... no thanks. I stopped watching Olympic basketball in 1992...(not to mention they snubbed Isiah Thomas off the team... thanks MJ)

I've been enjoying hearing about his story and seeing him compete.

I think any able bodied runner who gets beat by a double amputee might have a serious case of butthurt after he sees that dude run by them and call "no fair"

Did anyone see the tape of him running at the Para-olympics? He had a bad start: fell down out of the blocks and then the next thing you see if him running in from out of frame to smoke all those guys who had a head start. He won by a few lengths, lol

I think dude deserves a chance to compete with the able bodies and am glad he got to do it, even if he didnt place in the finals.
