Being in the Marine Corps I move around a lot. Everywhere I go I find a local shop and pick up what I can.
What is the best comic shop in the country? My favorite so far is All About Books and Comic in Phoenix, AZ. I'm interested in hearing about other stores around the country.
Hey Joe! My favorite shop is Greg's Comics in Mesa, AZ! There's a reason I've been going there for almost 20 years. The owner, Howard, is a great guy and he treats his customers fairly, always giving a 20% discount on new books and back issues. Hint: Ask for the good stuff and he'll bring out his stash of older books from the back.
I nominated him for the retailer of the year award at this year's SDCC so we'll see what happens. Also ran across this cool article...
I've been to several other comic shops on the West Coast that are more flashy, but I haven't found any that feature the price, selection, and personality that Greg's has. Stop by if you get a chance!
P.S. - Thank you for serving this great country of ours! You are appreciated!!!
Ditto...I'm in the Army and travel a great deal also. The best local comic book store I've found is Capital City Comics located in Montgomery, AL. It has an excellent selection and the owner is always willing to hunt down back issues for his clientele. But, what really secures my opinion as the "Top Spot" is his discount to members of the Armed Forces.
If you're ever in Montgomery give it try or shoot me a message and I'll take you there.
Hi Joe! Out here in Southern California the shop I like is called 4 Color Fantasies, located in Rancho Cucamonga. A really nice, clean and organized shop with very friendly employees. I dare say the politest employees of any shop that I have ever met! Of course, the other alternative in SoCal is the Frank & Sons Warehouse show in the city of Industry. (Think Mos Eisley in a giant warehouse: a wretched hive of scum and villainy, with a little bit of comics, toys, sports memarobilia, etc. thrown in!)
I'm a fan of Harrison's Comics in Salem, MA and Past, Present Future in West Palm Beach FL.
I'm not a fan of Midtown Comics in NYC, but that's just my perrogative, not in the hater way. Midtown always seems to show up on people's lists...
... which also proves the caveat that for every store lover, there's a store hater or someone who had a bad or lackluster experience. I'd make sure to put the positive spin on being a Marine and moving; you get the opportunity to see a lot of shops!
