Do you put your books on the Registry? How often do you view the registry sets? I see guys like Cheetah who put books on the registry almost daily. Others put their books up but then rarely come back and update what they have bought or sold. Some collectors ignore it all-together.

So, where do you fall? Do you like the registry? Do you like adding to it? Is it a waste of time? What are the positive/negative aspects of the registry? Your thoughts!

I originally started using the registry hoping that it would put me in touch with sellers who could help me improve my run. I've been unsuccessful in that respect, but I've added more of my collection because I see the Registry as a good way to make other collectors more aware of niche titles and overlooked books. I like the presentation, which I see as far superior to CAF, and I often look at other peoples' collections.

In a way, I think the registry today is a little overlooked, the same way the CGC message board was in the early years. The board took off once there was a critical mass of serious contributors. Collectors like cheetah and TempusFugitivus have been making a big contribution to the Registry and I think it would be great for our hobby if more experienced collectors participated. I also think it would help if the Registry went more in the direction of an interactive social medium, allowing readers to post comments and give other feedback, perhaps a "+1" or "Like It" button or a way to rate a book based on eye appeal? Right now, it is difficult to find sets that you're interested in. CAF's ability to sort based on the number of comments is not perfect but a lot better than what the Registry currently provides.

There is a strong reluctance among some collectors to post books because they don't like the idea of scoring books based on the technical grade. It might boost participation if CGC added the option not to assign scores to a set(?), just like a set can be obscured.

I looked through the registry sets to see if any of the books I am selling were needed by other members. I did sell a Cerebus #2 CGC 9.4 to a guy who was missing a copy from his Registry Set. So, occasionally it works for both buyer and seller.

My books are boxes put away and I dont have a lot of time to access them and enjoy them. I keep my registry updated with nice big scans of the books and its a way for me to visit my books (and remember what I have) in one online place.

I put most of my GA books in the registry and used to put everything in it. I've deleted a number of modern titles I no longer pursue just to make it more manageable. I like the registry mostly because it helps me manage my books and I don't need to keep a separate database of them since it is available on-line and over my phone. I can put in scans so I can compare my copy to a possible upgrade. I get offers of books based on my sets but also feel like I get bid up on books that I am looking for. I've taken to making my more active titles obscured to prevent this. I've also had a few books I've purchased by making an offer to someone who had a book I needed.

I think the registry suffers from a perception that anyone who participates in it is a narcissist who only wants people to ooh and ahh over their books. There are plenty of people who don't like graded books and condescend to those who list them. There are folks that don't collect comics at all and condescend to people who collect them seriously. There is also a pretty dominant jealousy factor if you have nice sets and the passive-aggressive comments get a bit tedious. All in all, I get a bit closer every day to making all my sets private.

Used to use it, the biggest pain in the azz is when you sell something and someone tries to add to their set. I feel bad for the new owner and drop everything to transfer "ownership" ASAP.

Just not enough time anymore to add another dimension to collecting.
