You know what really grinds my gears lately???

People on eBay.

Specifically the non-fan, flippers. It's getting kinda ridiculous. It's not just the comics either, anything/everything Walking Dead.

On my recent order at SplashPage, I had purchased 3 pages. I got an e-mail after I had already paid; stating that unfortunately Issue #79, Pg. 7 ($120) had already been sold and the website had not been updated. I was ok with that as I had a few backup choices. However I go on eBay this morning and someone is selling that SAME page for $300! Makes me so mad! You KNOW whoever bought it did so entirely to make a profit. Thus making the fans shell out more cash than necessary.

Mark knows this and now SpashPage's prices go up! ffs. I'm kinda glad I bought a few pieces when I did. I feel like I rescued an animal from the pound that's now going to a loving family rather than a breeder.

I'm not against making money, I would be a hipocrite if I said I never made a buck on eBay, but to buy up OA in large batches strictly to resell for profit really screws over the fans. (tsk)

Here's the LINK to the listing.

:end rant: :frustrated:

I hope Mark is noticing that those pages are NOT selling for the most part. I agree that there are many people trying to flip WD art, but from what i can see they aren't very successful at it.

Those pages are not meant to be selling for those prices. They are up to try and drive traffic to other items for sale. Now if someone pulls the trigger and pays a ton for a piece of OA that is their right. Free BIN listings on eBay are a good thing to take advantage of if you have stuff you don't really care to sell, but if someone pays a crazy amount for them you will gladly take the offer.

I own over 50 pieces of WD OA now and have a dozen of them framed including a few of them listed on eBay. I will continue to list some of them here and there to drive people to look at my other stuff for sale.

Also I have sold off 2 pieces of WD OA in the past week to fellow board members for what I paid plus shipping. If it is a piece I am not that attached to I don't mind letting it go to another board member.

Hadn't considered that...thanks for clarifying.

Well then! lol, I'm relieved it's you and not just some random Joe Schmo who doesn't really appreciate the series/art. I honestly think they will have no problem selling at those prices.

Aside from the OA, there are some just plain odd listings as well.

The graded #61 for 200k and now one for 50k, why!?

WD #1 (Image Firsts Ed.) 9.8 SS for 1k? Really?

TPB Volume 1 9.8 SS for $950?

Aside from #61, if that's really what people are paying for these, WOW. I dont think that's the case though.

I am too attached to my collection to sell anything right now, at least until it could potentially net me a down payment on a house :)

We can agree to disagree, my point wasn't that those in the know would have paid more for the page, but that there was a shot that some corporate executive's wife would have paid 20K for the page for her husband (I'm not trying to be stereotypical so please ignore my stereotypes but men enjoy Zombies more than women but the genders could easily have been reversed) as a present for his/her birthday or just to buy it because they have tons of cash. That particular scene is one of the scenes most commonly associated with the TV series. Those kinds of buyers don't know who people are, but do know when there is a gold star or whatever by an ebay seller's name that they have had many transactions without incident. Feel free to disagree but I want you to understand my reasoning and not disagree with a strawman or misunderstand my reasoning.

Even with this caveat, you are still mistaken as one of these "types" was trying to buy it off eBay and it didn't change the valuation very much.

Just because one prospective buyer fits that type doesn't mean that the rest of the non-traditional Walking Dead buyers wouldn't have paid big bucks. Think about the fact that Walking Dead Weekly sells for big money.

I hate to say it, but at least two of those pages listed by the guy who has about 15 on ebay now, have sold for excessive amounts of money. As it's been stated before on this forum, sellers are not looking for a price to sell to everyone, they are looking for a price to sell to one person.

I know the selection of WD art on splashpageart like the back of my hand, and there have been SO many pages that have sat stagnant, only to be bought up now that the price has been increased. At first I thought it was simply flippers (and I'm sure they're out there), but all one needs to do is look at the art that has been uploaded on CAF in the past few months to realize that many people are getting into the market.

Good for Charlie. Good for the WD market. Good for all us guys who have a bunch of pages already.

My only question is how deep can the rabbit hole go? A mediocre preacher page with Jesse Custer on it can sell for 500 bucks min.

What will become of the WD OA market in coming years when much more of the art is out on the secondary market? I think it only has room to expand in one direction; up.

Woah. Hold up here. Are you making a comparison between weeklies and OA?

Weeklies = speculation

OA = not even in the same category.

I agree with you. Good for Charlie, Good for the WD market and especially good for those who have pages already. However! It sucks for newcomers.

Prices still aren't bad, especially compared to the prices that most modern artists demand.

:cough: Tony Moore!

His wife Kara was happy to sell me some OA from Battle Pope for under $200 a page. Maybe I can get him to sketch a couple zombies quickly onto those pages and then I would love to buy them. :)

I had e-mailed Kara a while back for a quote, super nice person, but priceeeey for WD art. I was hoping they would be at SDCC, but I dont think they will be there :(

Pricey indeed, but the more I get to talk to Tony and Kara the more I truly understand and believe that they are just as happy to never sell a single one of the WD OA they still have in their possession. That is unless they get an offer which they can't refuse and needless to say that is what their asking prices for the OA fall under.

To you guys who get their OA framed: Can you recommend a good place to do so? The only framing places that I know of, near me anyways, are Michaels and Aaron Brothers. I know most framing stores offer 50% off custom jobs. To reference what I would like to get done here's a nice pic from CAF.

nice cover - use www.arttoframes.com - my contact there is Jeff - they do a GREAT professional job - PM me and I can send you some pictures of things they have framed for me

edit: forgot to mention - they do it for dirt cheap (i live a mile away from these guys - go there for everything)

they use museum glass, airtight seal in the back - tip top work.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion Jerry, I'll check em out. That is a nice cover, I was just using the pic for reference of what I would like to do as far as framing goes.

I see you have a bunch of nice pieces on CAF, very nice.

I'll post mine up once I get them framed.

I got a great Brit page from them for $100. It;s only the Walking Dead pages that are priced that high, everything else is really, really reasonable.

So I saw this on the web a week or so ago, and now it's been pulled and I can't find it again. Is this a fake? Or a possible 100 cover? Anybody know? I haven't been keeping up with all the different WD threads. It was not discussed in this one yet.

Well, only the half and half "Something to Fear" cover, the Adlard wraparound and the Silvestri variant have been released so far as I know, so this could be genuine. It's obviously not Quitely or Macfarlane, and I can't remember off the top of my head who else is doing them.

Pretty rubbish anyway, IMHO...

It doesn't look like any of the artists listed. Maybe Byran Hitch. Maybe.

I looks more like Bernie Wrightson's style to me, so it could be a cut and paste fake. Anybody recognize the image?

I saw it when I searched WD 100 covers and it was in the same place as the Silvestri cover. I right click saved them both, and that's the only reason I still had the image.

It's Interesting to me that it isn't coming up anymore on google.
