Parise will probably have one-third of the teams in the NHL hunting him, but I truly question his value. I predict NJD will not re-sign him as some other team will offer him big money based on his reputation alone, so you'll need a new Captain. Don't think AH is ready for that, as good as a young player he truly is.
Parise has been a winner at every level he's played. NJ will rue the day they lose him.
It's funny, one of the chats on the Kings' Board is about trading back-up netminder Bernier and a future consideration to NJD for Parise (conditional signing with LAK). Most Kings' fans are still clamoring for another T6 forward, and Parise would fit the bill.
With Quick looked upon as being one of (if not) the best goalie in the NHL, Bernier is too good to remain as a career back-up if Quickie signs a long-term deal.
So Brodeur gets in about 50 games next year, Bernier about 30 games, and the Devils can ascertain if Bernier is their man to replace Brodeur the following year.
A lot of "ifs" true, but an interesting thought nonetheless.

A lot of "ifs" true, but an interesting thought nonetheless. A couple of gaping holes in this theory:
1) why would the Kings want to trade a perceived valuable commodity for a guy they can just sign as a free agent? They stand as good a chance as any in the long list of suitors for Parise at signing him outright. And they have a decided advantage in one very important area; proof they are dedicated to and can win it all.
2) I don't believe Parise is not going to play the field. So I highly doubt he'll sign any contract before July 1 and these rumors require he does.
3) If I'm wrong about #2 and Parise will negotiate a new contract before July 1, then I think that the Devils already have an option in their system that has as much upside as Bernier; Scott Wedgewood. Granted, Wedge is a couple of years away at least but I also think that the Devils can get more for Parise's rights so to speak than a backup goalie.
Otherwise, it makes all the sense in the world...

I know Parise had a rough finals but IMO, he played incredibly hard and backchecked even harder. With guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg leading the way the Wings love their forwards who play in all 3 zones. Parise would be a welcome addition and we'd be happy to have him. I'd be a bit distressed to see Parise in Detroit. Like you say, he and Datsyuk would be an unbelievable 1-2 punch. You guys may need to consider Suter a bit more, though, now that Lidstrom has packed it in.
Correct. Wings also just dealt negotiating rights to Brad Stuart over to the Sharks for conditional pick. So Lidstrom is gone and so is Stuey. That leaves us with Kronwall and IMO future star Brendan Smith alongside Kyle Quincey who we will likely re-sign, Jonathan Ericsson and Jakub Kindl.
Early reports are Wings will make a significant play for Suter who they covet tremendously. Hearsay has the Wings wanting and making a pitch for BOTH Suter and Parise and they have the money to do so. Rumor mill has circulated whispers for years that Suter and Parise may want to sign on together somewhere a la Lebron/Bosh. Both are Americans, came up in the same national program and have played together internationally so there's a relationship there.
It's all going to boil down to term. Wings have plenty of cash but they do have some guys locked up long term. They'll need to find a way to give decent length to some big contracts if they want them both but b/c of their age, these 2 would fill a big gap as Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Kronwall get older (all are over 30 already).
Other guys Detroit will likely look at are (excluding Restricted Free Agents), these are guys on my personal want list and may not actually be on Ken Holland's radar. I'm leaving off any guys I think are too one-dimensional or that I don't think would some of the holes we need like size and toughness. I'm not factoring in salary here, just names
Jarret Stoll Mikhail Grabovski Paul Gaustad Brandon Prust (I would love to have this guy) Travis Moen Aaron Asham Denis Wideman Barret Jackman Willie Mitchell Matt Carle Bryan Allen Tim Gleason
Including Parise and Suter don't be surprised if the Wings don't wind up with 2 of these names, if not 3.
