Roy, as a dealer, I understand your comment. For myself, as a collector, I don't think CGC should be concerned with helping people sell graded comics. They have already helped, by grading the book. As a collector I can live without grader notes. Obviously some dealers that have a business model requiring grader's notes do care. If so, they should pay. If you smoke, you pay the tax. If you drive, you pay the tolls. If you CPR, then pay the CGC fee.

My prediction: Eventually, grader notes will be decoded into a data base that's quickly accessible for what is presumed would be a reasonable subscription fee that doesn't upset customers and require graders to return calls, the advertised benefit of which will be (in theory) more information and faster turnaround on submissions.
Don't hold your breath that prices will drop. The different pricing tiers are an indicator of CGC's intent. If anything, I am surprised that they did not tier the walkthrough notes based on the original FMV.
And sure, it is a cash grab. But from the average submitters standpoint, it is probably the best kind, since most are unaffected.

Do you think CGC will charge HERITAGE AUCTION for Grader Notes on comics submitted by HERITAGE for Grading?
mm
They have played favorites before, and likely continue to do so.
How do they play favourites?
Really. You think Heritage waits as long for their books as I do?
In any business, it's the relationships between businesses that count. The bigger the client the more a business is going to go out of their way for them. It's just the nature of any business.
I know with the Mound City people that CGC went out of their way to try to help Rob Weiman figure out which books to grade, and then grade them etc. Why wouldn't they? It's in their best interest to court a large submitter with delicate hands.
I wouldn't say that certain entities ALWAYS get preferential treatment over others but if anyone had a large collection coming to market worth millions that was going to make the news and there is a deadline to meet I'm sure CGC might apply a little extra effort in some areas.
Business is never black and white and cut and dry. There is always a little give and take from both sides. Anybody that runs a business either knows that or learns it very quickly. It's not about favouritism, it's about trying to keep everyone happy, the big guy and the little guy.
And just to round the conversation out, there are still Savannah books coming to market (or there was a few months ago), so Heritage can't possibly be getting preferential treatment on everything.
Anything that helps people sell graded comics makes CGC that much more valuable.

Bob, the entire reason for CGC's existence is to make comics sell easier over the internet. That was the reason they were created. Anything that creates a hindrance to those sales is going to affect a seller's bottom line which in turn will affect CGC's bottom line. It will trickle down. I can tell you based on the sentiments posted in this thread that it will affect my bottom line. That in turn will affect how much money I can spend buying and grading new comics.

Nobody has a problem paying a fee, from what I can gather here. I think the general agreement (and that is rare to have here) is that the fee is disproportionately large or prohibitive.

I thought CGC was for the collector not the retail market.
