Without drugs/alcohol, those abuse numbers would likely decrease greatly as well. Yeah, probably true. I heard that chronic meth users actually have the meth crystals pushing out through their skins causing those nasty skin problems. Is that true? I've heard that as well. Not sure if it's true. I figure that some of the skin issues (blistering, etc) may be caused by the flame/heat they have to use to cook it up and smoke it.
No, i think it's an internal thing, not external.
Whatever stuff you put into the body works it's way out of the bowel, urinary tract, lungs and skin. Wouldn't be surprised if it was toxins pushing out through the skin, in this case bits of crystal.

They see their parents do it,so they do it as well, then we get to hear from the media how the athletes are the bad role models, when it should be the parents who step up to the plate, and be the good role models.

It must be like taking poison.

I thought it was from an itching sensation they feel from either being high or coming down from the high. I thought it caused them to pick at their skin like it had bugs in it. I could be and probably am wrong.

Maybe it's a combo of all those things?

That's pretty much it.
Don't do this if you have a weak stomach, but if you google "Krokodil" and drugs (bronz mentioned it a while back) it has such a violent reaction in the human body that it actually causes pieces of your flesh to fall off leaving open sore wounds leaving people looking reptilian (hence the name Crocodile for the drug mix). In extreme cases people have open bones showing...and they are addicted to the stuff so they won't stop until death.
It's disgusting.
That's the stuff kids should be shown and taught about (with a degree of respect and censorship so as not to give them nightmares, of course).
