So, if one doesn't have a pure price in mind, and is after getting the best going rate, and the coin is a 3-digit coin and not 4+, what would likely be the best venue for selling?

Ebay, due to the multitude of members who may spy it?
Teletrade?
Greatcollections (still not sure of the number of eyes that may spy it there compared to thers)?
Specialist dealer?
Generic dealer (but a good one)?

Thoughts?

(and, no, this is NOT for the 1861 SLH I posted...that coin is currently, and for the foreseabble future, NFS)

depends on how soon you want money
and if there are colors requiring better than typical photography skills
and the series that the coin is in.

If there is a decent price spread between the assigned grade and the next grade up, I'd suggest consigning the coin to a major public auction.

Each time I have followed the results of a gold stickered coin, at a minimum, it has brought a price that corresponded with the next grade up. And in a number of cases, it well exceeded that level.

Another option is to consign the coin to a retailer at a mutually agreed upon price.

Feel free to PM me with details and I will be happy to give you my best guess as to fair market value and suggest a couple of different options.

Good questions.

Generically speaking specifically for myself \:\)

Don't "need' the money real soon.
Colors are adequately captured by a recent photograph and aren't rainbow/neon, nor "ugly", in my humble opinion.
Series is seated dimes....

If the dime has a 'O' or "CC' mintmark, you will probably get aggressive bidding in a name brand's auction, and potentially get your best price.

True.
This particular coin I have in mind, regrettably, has no mintmark \:\( ;\)

From what I have seen, the prices for generic gold stickered material has gone down as more has been popping up. I spoke to JA the other day, and due to the dealer price increase, they have been getting bombarded with huge submissions. It is only a matter of time for more and more to hit the market.

"Generic gold stickers material"? Oh brother...

What next? A "gold sticker" blue sheet?

CRO is making a niche market in gold stickers and in slabs with a story. Plus they are reasonable fellows. I would begin and end my search there. MJ
