An addendum to your detailed list is the fact that the adrenaline rush of participating in a live auction effects the same parts of the brain that cocaine does. Most stimulating experience!
As new collectors and buyers come in, as we are seeing this in the current auction, the material is gonna go thru the auction house to the smart dealer who knows when and what to buy. Again, this is over 1350 items and there are gonna be bargains out there with that much material.
Most dealers have much more than 1350 items available on a daily basis, at prices which, when averaged out, are comparable to or better than the auction houses, and which can be bought for a set price in a stress free environment. If you enjoy the action of an auction house, great. But please don't say that the auction route is better. It's simply different.

Look for jaw-dropping results and THIS is a good auction, you just have to look and there will be bargains
I could get a million bucks together pretty quick. I can think of quite a few dealers who are very competitive with the auction houses as far a purchase price. The problem is that sellers are easily lured by the prospect of consigning books and possibly getting nosebleed bids when, in fact, there is no guarantee. There is a lot of risk to consigning to an auction house. And there are tons of hidden costs (grading fees, consignment fees, buyer's premiums etc.) But many sellers would rather gamble through an auction house than take a set offer up front.
I think you make the case very well, RIch. As a bidder, Mitch likes the adreneline flow that high octane auctions generate. He thrives off it, and there is nothing wrong with that. But there is no substitute for developing business relations with a large network of dealers who can help customers achieve their collecting goals.
Auction houses tend to be impersonal which makes them more efficient handling and moving large quantities of collectibles, but not always to the advantage of buyers and/or sellers. Those who place books with auction houses take the bigger risk unless there is some kind of major promotion fueling it, like the BW pedigree.
There are other ways to promote nice collections without going the auction route though. The Super Soldier Collection consignment was a very successful promotion orchestrated by Metro last year. Of course not everything sold immediately, but the prices generated were impressive and there was plenty of adrenaline pumping from buyers trying to obtain special books for their collections. The Preview Night sale at SDCC was memorable; in fact, it made ComicCon more eventful. Instant gratification, something you don't get with an auction.

The 540,000.00 profit made on the regrade Batman # 1( 9.2 see 2010/315 9.0 sale ) shows what a good undergrader eye can do. There are at least a dozen books in this auction with a big potential $$$$$ upside on a regrade and press. Some of the profit probably would be to price increase but we would never hit 850K on a 9.0. To all of those people that said the billy regrades are gonna lose money....this auction will show you wrong. There 4 new billy books also. we will find out tomm.
Check out All-New #13 9.2 rockford ped, with kirby, powell art, the book has everything at 40% of guide, 400 bucks plus bp.
