Spurs nailed on for third now?

You'd think that was the case, yes - away to Villa, who haven't looked like a team trying to beat the drop, and home to Fulham, who have nothing much to play for. But you can never be certain with Tottenham.

If you can't get 6 points from those games you don't deserve to be in the top 4.

Precisely.

That's it in a nutshell.

Spurs have been given a huge second chance to rescue a season they looked to have blown. Time to step up and take it.

ITV's computer came to the conclusion that it was...

It was a goal. Incredible that Chelsea benefited from 2 incorrect goal decisions in a row, although granted that this one was not as clear cut as the goal in the Spurs game.

Not that it would`ve affected the onfield decision, but I`m amazed that for such a big match that the broadcasters only had 2 cameras covering the goal line area.

I can`t complain about the result, though. Liverpool dug themselves a hole by looking slow and uninspired until Carroll came on. After that, it was the story of their season--too little too late, although amazingly they avoided hitting the goal frame.

If there`s one glimmer of hope for Liverpool fans to draw from this game, though, is that perhaps, just perhaps, Andy Carroll has turned the corner. He was the only Liverpool player that played well in the mid-week game against Fulham, and if his header had been correctly counted as a goal, he would`ve been man of the match regardless of the ultimate result. It`s not like Chelsea have a small, unphysical backline.

If Bayern were watching this game, they are probably measuring out space in their cabinet for another European Cup now.

And they effing blew it. In the end Spurs were fortunate with a point after Rose's dismissal early in the second half. Up until that moment it had been all Tottenham, with Villa nicking a goal against the run of play.

As it turns out, that point is enough to keep Villa in the EPL next season. It could've been different with QPR and Bolton both winning their matches, but (in one of those ironic twists you sometimes get) Villa's rivals West Brom did them a massive favour with an injury time equalizer that meant that third from bottom Bolton can't catch Villa, unless they score 17 goals in their final match.

Oh, and Manchester City basically won the EPL with a deserved 2-0 victory at Newcastle.

Huge missed opportunity for Spurs, and very good day for Arsenal as they didn't suffer any consequences for their draw at all, with Spurs' and Newcastle's results. And, the collective dropping of points by Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle this wekeend mean that if Chelsea win on Tuesday, which they likely will, they will be in the mix to swoop in next weekend if any 2 teams ahead of them stumble.

Championship-worthy performance from Man City today. At first, you just wondered if it was going to be one of those days when the ball just won't go over despite their dominance, but an absolute class first goal by Toure and an excellent 2nd goal, although really they should've put it away before then.

I would have been happier with a draw in the City-Newcastle tie, but a City win was definitely preferable to the alternative with Arsenal throwing away 2 points in the dying minutes yesterday. It's like no one wants to finish 3rd/4th this season. Arsenal-West Brom will be a tricky tie next weekend, but I'd rather face WBA than Fulham or Everton like Spurs and Newcastle, respectively.

Is it too much to ask for a fortuitous case of food poisoning to strike City on Saturday night? \(shrug\) Better another trophy for The Ferg than proving that the title can still be bought by the highest bidder. doh\!

I really don't know what's going to happen at the weekend. It will most likely come down to who ever gets the best result on the day, which is a nice change to the norm.
