There are lots of small fish that can become sardines. There’s really no official species that qualifies, until it gets close to the can. Sardines can be herrings, round herrings, pilchards, sprats and many other kinds of fish. The only defining characteristic of sardines is size, they must be under 4 inches in length, that’s it. This is deliciously good news
Also note worthy, the oil in the sardine can is worth more than the actual fish inside...so sop that stuff up with some semi-stale French bread.
Point of etiquette: It is not advisable to consume a can of sardines just prior to a first date, that is unless she's a kitten.

"sank" unless you preface sunk with a verb. Sank and Sunk have always given me troubles. I read in an English book that the rule is people "sank" but inanimate things "sunk". Always confused me. Kinda like "hung" and "hanged". TRUTH
