Grasping at straws here, but the cheek in the first picture looks uncharacteristically dark, as one sometimes sees on a thumbed coin at just the right angle. Maybe it's just the lighting. I can't really tell.

I would break it out if you want it in a graded holder and either try again with PCGS or submit it here. I don't see any reason for a details or "genuine" holder.

P.S. What made you decide to slab the coin in the first post to begin with? I would think that you would do okay selling it as a raw coin and that certification fees probably wouldn't have improved the coin's liquidity that much.

He didn't necessarily get screwed. There very well might be machine damage. Sometimes it is difficult to detect, especially based just on images. That said, two posters mentioned possible damage to some of the stars.
