If you were to spell out numbers, you would you have to go until 1,000 until you would find the letter "A". What about "One hundred And one" I believe it is probably correct to say "one hundred, one". How would you make out a check for $101.00? One hundred, one dollars. Right?

That kind of makes me want to go write a check for something... I always liked extending the last "0" on the "100" so that it filled the rest of the line. I remember my parents telling me to do that so that no one could modify the amount. I still think that's stupid since people would, seemingly, only want to modify whatever the first numbers were... not the change...

According to a quick google, the US style is "one hundred one" and the UK style is "one hundred and one". I know that my son is being taught "one hundred one" at school, so maybe that style is taking over.

I haven't written a check in more than 15 years. I don't think I'm alone in that either.

Wow! My "One hundred And One" post has started all sorts of controversy.
We need a Oatmeal summit to hash this one out.

Happened ages ago. Up until the late ' 70s, a billion in England was a million million, not a thousand million as it has always been on your side of the pond. A thousand million used to be known over 'ere as a "Milliard".
Britland changed the value of the billion to the U.S. version, probably as a NATO directive (just speculating on that).

As recently as the late '70's y'all had a Milliard & billion was some much larger figure?
Damn. I fear your foreign ways.
