Without question, there is enough food produced in the world to feed everyone. This is just a myth propagated for certain agendas.

For example, i have read that the grain and crops that a cattle eats can feed many more people than the meat of a mature animal.

So it is very possible that our meat heavy (and I'll add luxurious, because up until recently eating meat with every meal was considered a luxury in most societies) diets are keeping food from those that need it or could use it.

If you are a beef lobbyist though, you wouldn't want to share that since it's bad for beef business.

It's not a personal attack though, as far as I know, it's the fact of the matter.

I have read the same thing and they are trying to educate people to turn this around. It's a very large ship with a small rudder and it's going to take a lot of time and effort to make a real change.

Brazil is one country that is apparently leading the way, which is impressive considering the country is heavily catholic and the catholic church has traditionally been staunchly and adamantly against birth control.

I hope the population doubles every generation.

The species didn't conquer the entire globe because we couldn't get up in the morning from our slop pile of a campsite & face the day following raids upon our village women from hostile enemies, ever present on our marches.

We aren't so successful due to systemic, congenital blue funk.

If we reach the point where the global environmental resources can't provide, no matter how well they're managed by those at the top, in the 1%, then war, famine, & disease will level us off.

Or, we'll all begin to look like Russia & Italy: population on rapid decline (excepting immigration).

This is its leading act of humanitarianism. I commend Rome for its tireless efforts.

Waht angers me about the whole "is there enough food to feed the world deal" is companies knowingly throw out millions of dollars worth of perfectly good food every year to write off for tax purposes in this country..as well as clothing and other perfectly usable goods..

And in poverty stricken countries millions and millions of pounds of food go spoiled every year in some local warlords storage room or in the storage by some higher ups..keeping the food/goods/water from people who deperately need it..to control those people under them.

Sure agencies galore can send tons of food/needs to those countries where people need it..but the higher ups keep it from them to keep that leash on them.

you can as some say "teach a man to fish" but when the local muckity mucks take away his fishing pole and bar him from standing on the banks of the river he still ain't gonna get that fish to put on the table even though it is just right there waiting for him.

agendas indeed.

And as far as people being poor being happy..

why does the caged bird sing? Because it is better than flapping it's wings against the bars until it is dead

This is persuasive.

I don't buy it.

Roy's observations on my weak word choice in choosing 'happy' are more convincing.

Mia Angelou says "a bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song"

Some creatures only know how to do what they know how to do regardless of what is going on around them. I envy those types of people. You throw the world at them and they just continue to sing.
