Ah, ashcans, didn't know there were any.
Reread it, better the 2nd time...be sure to read the inside front cover...i read it the first go without doing that.

This book was sold out at the distributor level by the time I figured out I wanted it. I ended up ordering 5 copies from midtown comics. I'm hoping they send them. I didn't place the orde until about 2 weeks ago. Also got lucky and got a BKV autographed Saga 1 for cover price in the same order. You may want to try them or mycomicshop.
THE SIDEKICKS GET THEIR DUE AS DANGER CLUB #1 SELLS OUT
DANGER CLUB #1, the first issue of the new Image Comics superhero series by Landry Q. Walker and Eric Jones (Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) has sold out at the distributor level a week before its release in stores on April 4.
Image Comics has immediately sent the issue back to press. The second printing (FEB128147) will be in stores on May 2. DANGER CLUB #2 (MAR120479) will be in stores on May 16.
A dark vision of a world where the world's superheroes have gone missing and teenage sidekicks must create a new order, DANGER CLUB has been described by writer Walker as "Lord of the Flies with superheroes."

it flows from frame to frame like a marvel or dc comic...something alot of image comics don't do.
i'd still like to find a danger club ashcan somewhere...don't see them for sale at all.

Did anyone else really enjoy the Dark Knight like battle? I thought it was one of the best plot angle I've seen in a comic in a long time. I was really surprised that more people didn't talk about it in their comments regarding the book.

I've read some lousy reviews of Danger Club which I frankly do not understand. I thought it was a very cool comic with good art and a neat story. I got lucky and was able to piece together a small stack. Like many others, I read the solicitation in previews and passed. I will be very interested in seeing how many other people also passed on this book because of the solicitation in previews. I don't know that it will have a print run as small as Peter Panzerfaust or No Place Like Home, but I don't anticipate there being more than 8K copies of this book floating around. The other interesting thing is that it was sold out at the distributer level weeks before it hit the shelves.

yeah, wish i could find the ashcan....seems scarce (i think JJ is hoarding them in his cellar).....haven't seen any poor reviews, guess i need to look harder....only review i care about is my own (followed closely by brangets).
can you post a link to a bad review, last 2 i looked at were 4/5 and 4.5/5. Not to say there aren't any, i've seen a couple 3/5 also. Would like to see someone (review) saying it's horrible

...The other interesting thing is that it was sold out at the distributer level weeks before it hit the shelves. The majority of ALL 'new' talent Image books will sell out at the distributor level before they hit the shelves. The print run is based on what the shops pre-order. That's what Image tells them. Don't waste your money on printing extras in case it fails. Print what the shops order, they will sell out of it, and see it as a successful book. When someone says about these books that they "sold out at the distributer level weeks before it hit the shelves", it doesn't mean a dang thing other than they printed what was ORDERED.
My recollection was that a number of the recent Image #1's didn't sell out until the week they were released? Am I incorrect about that?

so if all the Super Heroes are 'gone'...then what happened to all the Super Villains....Kid Vigilante better get used to his face getting beat to mush.
I think we'll see a Super Hero return ahead of whatever nasty stuff is headed earth's way...maybe one that's not as powerful as the rest.
Would like to see some backstory concerning the sidekicks better halfs that died.

If the second issue is as good as the first issue I think it'll be a great series. The only thing that has me worried is that the plot borrowed so much from Frank Miller's Dark Knight it toed the line between homage and plagerism. I also hope they get someone to help them with publicity. The reason the print run is going to be small is that the solicitation in Previews was lousy. When I read the first issue I was like "is this a different book than the one they advertised.". I think a lot of people were expecting Teen Titans or Young Justice and what we got was awesome. The nod to Dark Knight was very well done, the characters are cool, the art is really good, the color is great and the writing was better than the art. I'll be reading this book for the next year and probably as long as they print it. I new the writer and artist had talent but I was pleasantly surprised with how well the first issue was put together. It was probably my favorite book this month and that says a lot with the number of quality books on the shelves.

Found the names of the Heroes that went missing from a review of the ashcan a few months ago:
Captain Quantum
The Asgardian
Johnny Perilous
Neutrona
The Almighty Zeus
Apokalyptika
Mr. Everywhere
Red Vengeance
it was also apparently going to be a six issue series. Doubt that's the case now.

I think it's a bit too soon to assume it will become an ongoing. If anything, it might run as a six-issue mini...and then later evolve into another mini or an ongoing.

seems like most all the supposed minis from image are turning into monthlys...Peter Panzerfaust was going to be a mini also. If the desire by readers to buy it is there they'd be crazy not to. Guess we'll see.
Here's a couple guys doing a video review of it.

I'm rarely wrong about a hit, and I think this book is going to be a smash hit. The first issue was a big surprise for me. I imagine that lots of comic shops didn't order it in big numbers with Avengers v. X-Men, America's Got Powers, Secret, Saga, Thief of Thieves, Fatale, Peter Panzerfaust, Manhattan Projects and the Court of Owls cross over all going on now. Plus the solicitation for Danger Club was so bad I didn't even pre-order it and I usually pick up 5 copies of Image 1's that I don't think will hard at 10+ copies of image 1's I think will be hits. Note that I've since ordered 15 copies from the secondary market (I got lucky and was able to grab 1 copy from my LCS which ordered 40 copies of Fatale 1), but lord knows how many I'll actually receive. I'm very interested in learning what the print run was on this book. I will be shocked if its over 8K. Does anyone know where to buy original art?

I read an earlier solicitation that it was only 6....oh well...wouldn't be the first image title to go from mini to monthly.

pretty low.
I am really hoping this book takes off. Of all of the recent #1's, I thought this one was the most fun. I am really excited about Mind the Gap and Saga as well, but Danger Club instantly delivered and was much more immediately satisfying to me.

Agreed! Major payoff in only 22 pages. BTW, I enjoyed the 1st page so much more on the 2nd read. Lots of great foreshadowing there. ;-)

If this title doesn't become an ongoing series and/or if an ongoing series isn't launched after this mini series concludes, I am going to be really disappointed. This is an excellent book. Issue #2 was too short. I can't wait for issue #3. I enjoyed issue #2 but as Tuff Ghost said "we are still left in the dark on a lot of things." I also enjoy the art but there is a solid story that is building and I can't wait to see where this book goes next. If this book gets green lit for an ongoing series, I am confident that it will be the surprise hit of the most recent wave of awesome Image books. I enjoyed Danger Club more than any of the other recent Image titles (except for Saga) and I believe that Image has put some phenomenal books out in the last three to six months. I want more Danger Club!

Agreed on all counts.
This one was less instantly gratifying (the first issue would have done well as a fun one-shot in many ways), but this one certainly advanced the plot a bit, and raised some interesting questions. Looking forward to issue 3.
One thing that I find a bit confusing (and not sure if it's just me, and I'm missing the obvious). The girl that drives Robot 9...is she normal size (and the robot is very big), or is she super-tiny (and the robot is big, but not that much bigger than a person)...? Sometimes the perspective in these scenes throws me a bit. I'm thinking she's probably smallish (but still normal), and the robot is maybe 2x or 3x the size of a person...?

I think that's right.
I was actually scared that the second issue would disappoint because the first issue was so good.

ok, that's what I thought too. And this seems to make sense. I took a closer look at issue 1, and the briefcase with the knuckles is quite large for her, but very small for KV. And...the robot looks considerably larger than the other sidekicks in the batlle scene. So I think she is a "micro-person".

Image announced the following on its website: "selling out on its Wednesday release date this week was the second issue of the Teen Titans-meets-The Lord of the Flies series DANGER CLUB by Landry Q. Walker and Eric Jones (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade) that MTV Geek calls " a relentless and unique take on the 'teen superhero team' genre." continuing its strong performance after a critically-acclaimed first issue that also sold out and received a second printing. Its second printing (APR128085) will be in stores on June 13."

If this book gets green lit for an ongoing series and if the writer and artist are agreable to an ongoing series or even a series of mini series - this book is going to take off. I haven't spoke to a single person who wasn't an immediate fan after reading the first issue. I think it is the best new super hero team book on the market. I enjoy it more than any new DC or Marvel superhero team. In fact, I've enjoyed the first two issues more than any new superhero book that Image has put out. Even if there is no ongoing title, I imagine that this book will continue to have a strong cult following in the future.

It was originally solicited as a mini, but it may have changed and I just didn't learn of the change. If you can find out where you heard that, please post the link. Thanks!

No link/nothing heard. I'm not sure myself. Doesn't Image usually label mini's 'X of X' on the cover, a la Luther Strode?

Not always, look at Grim Leaper and Black Kiss II - neither were marked x of y but both are mini and/or limited series. I think when the book isn't finished before it is solicited (i.e., the writer hasn't layed out the story boards or there is a risk that it may take 5 issues instead of 4 or 6 instead of 5 that this happens). Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE for this book to becom ean ongoing title. I absolutely love this book and have looked forward to each forthcoming issue after I've put down the last issue. In fact, those of us who are fanatics, should probably try and get signatures and present them to the creative staff and beg for them to keep putting this book out. It is a great ride and I for one can't get enough of it. Does anyone know how to reach the writer or artist and/or the OA dealer for Erik Jones (as he would obviously be able to get our petition to the creators)?

Super hero team books outside of the big 2 are a very tough sell. Both Noble Causes and Dynamo 5 were both fantastic, but ultimately were cancelled due to sales.

Don't take this the wrong way but you also called Hickman's book Secret pedestrian so forgive me if I imagine that you are highly critical of books and that you may be in the minority on this one.

Probably.
I've always found everything I've read by Hickman (a decent amount) to be enjoyable, but unfulfilling in the end. For that reason, I always tell myself that I'm not going to buy anything he writes, but I always end up buying it and always feel the same. So that's my fault.
Danger Club, I only read once, but it felt like it was all over the place and the story didn't stick with me at all. I think I was a bit turned off by the art because I tend to dislike anything with a manga tinge to it at all.
There's not many new books I'm liking right now really. I was a bit underwhelmed with MtG #1 when I fully expected to love it after reading the preview. Saga is the only new book that I'm 100% behind. No Place Like Home, X-O Manowar and Saucer Country have my attention as well.

See I was underwhelmed by Saucer Country (but I'm afraid my expectations were too high). I intentionally didn't read the preview for Mind the Gap because I've noticed recently that when I read 6 page previews or even articles that reveal plot lines that I don't enjoy the books like I would if I didn't know what to expect. It's the same with movies. I remember wathcing Schindler's List and being like "that was a good movie, but I don't know that it was the best movie I've ever seen" by contrast I remember Pulp Fiction getting terrible press by my local whore for the GOP/US Chamber of Commerce rag newspaper and being like "that was the best f'n movie ever. I think that when I lower my expectations I'm pleasantly surprised. Danger Club for example, I didn't even put in a pre-order for. Then I heard that it was a great book and ordered a copy and was so pleasantly surprised that I hurried up and ordered a half dozen more copies. Forgive me for rambling, it's very late on the East Coast, but I think you get my point. Another example of a book that I was underwheled by was America's Got Powers. Again, I think it's because I knew everything about the book before I opened up a single page. I bet that if I didn't know anything about the book before I opened it up, I would have really enjoyed the premise and plot becasue the art was really sharp. As far as Danger Club goes, I liked the 1st issue b/c of the Dark Knight tribute, nod, whatever you want to call it. I also like Magna inspired art. I don't like strict Magna but I do like quasi-magna art. Anyway, I was nervous that the second issue couldn't maintain the quality of the first, but I thought it did and I'm very interested in seeing how the rest of the book develops. In reference to Secret, I enjoyed the first issue in large part because I didn't know who the hell I was supposed to root for even when the book was over. Who knows if the rest of the series will go anywhere but I liked it. I tend to think that Hickman does a good job with military type books as well (military and history books). Anyway, I hope you give both those series another try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by both books.

I've always found everything I've read by Hickman (a decent amount) to be enjoyable, but unfulfilling in the end. For that reason, I always tell myself that I'm not going to buy anything he writes, but I always end up buying it and always feel the same. So that's my fault. I've done that before, with various properties. You say 'I'm not buying this anymore...', but then, you turn around and do it...
Danger Club, I only read once, but it felt like it was all over the place and the story didn't stick with me at all. I think I was a bit turned off by the art because I tend to dislike anything with a manga tinge to it at all. I detest manga-esque art usually, but surprisingly didn't mind it in this book.
There's not many new books I'm liking right now really. I was a bit underwhelmed with MtG #1 when I fully expected to love it after reading the preview. Saga is the only new book that I'm 100% behind. No Place Like Home, X-O Manowar and Saucer Country have my attention as well. Saucer is interesting, to say the least. Too early to say with MtG - VERY hard to get a feel from that first issue.

If you listen to fans of Nonplayer then 8 months between the 1st and 2nd issue is accepptable. I hope that it's a sign that the book is going to take a turn that will permit it to run as a longer series even if it's a 20, 40 or 60 issue limited series like Fatale or Chew or other books that have finite endings planned.

I am still not clear the plot, who's the main character? Kid v? The first few pages of 2nd book seems like that is the end of the series unless there is a double or the "other" guy still alive then the story could continue.

I imagine that the superboy character is going to come back and that the conflict b/w him and kid v. will be the subject of a continuing series and that the alien/cosmic threat will be the subject matter of the rest of the 1st arc and/or limited series but I have no evidence of that ... based on kid v.'s bloody mug on the cover of issue 3 there is certainly evidence that the superboy character comes back and kicks the *spoon* out of kid v.

We'll see what happens, but as a matter of story telling the writer is most likely going to keep the number of key characters small to make them memorable. The better question is why you are having such an emotional reaction to me speculating about plot developments when you are free to postulate yourself about how the story will unfold. Relax man, you're going to have a stroke. Geez.

This book is awesome. The only reason that it isn't my favorite new comic is that it appears that it is a limited series although it hasn't been referenced as such in some time.
Would someone PLEASE tell me where I can buy original art. I would be incredibly appreciative and owe whomever points me in the righ direction a big favor.
The most recent issue was great. I can't wait to see how the various plot lines are going to shake out. Why isn't anyone else talking or thinking about this book as much as me? Are there other Danger Club fanatics out there? If so, please show yourself and let's get this series to become an ongoing title. I want more Danger Club in my life! I am convinced that if enough people are exposed to this book it will be the sleeper hit of 2011 and that sales will go through the roof. Does anyone have any observations they want to share about the direciton of the plot or comment on how cool the initial page of each book and the covers are? Did I mention I'm obsessed with this book. It is great!

Try contacting the artist on Twitter. This was his response to someone's request for art pages -
"Eric Jones @CartoonJones

Thought the pacing was interesting with issue 3. The way the story kept shifting focus from one location to another, I felt the need to go back and read it a 2nd time just to keep everything straight. Definitely feels very well thought out, though. Anxious for issue 4.
This book definitely has the potential to make a great ongoing (or a series of minis ala Hellboy). Here's hoping it sticks around for awhile.

I'm afraid the only way this series is going to continue is if fans continue to support the title & express their interest in the series running longer than an eight issue and potential four additional issue arc. It is one of my favorite books.

I have this title in my pull list and 2nd print as well, probably not enough but i did my part in supporting it. 8 issues is not bad, hope the ending is not the result of the from #2. Is he the main character?

Read #3 last night, and I have to admit, I started getting the characters confused and ended up frustrated at the end of the read. I'll have to re-read from #1 at some point so I can remember what was going on exactly.

If there weren't a dozen other awesome books being released by Image this book would be selling twice as many copies. It's a shame for the creators that there title isn't being read becaue there are so many great books being published right now. I hope the title starts to keep a montly schedule. I think if they can do that readership will continue to grow slow and steady. Thanks for posting the numbers Sam!

According to someone claiming to be Landry, the series will be 8 issues . Check out the comments section beneath this (scathing) review of issue 3. http://playeraffinity.com/comics/comic-reviews/danger-club-3-review.htmlSpeaking of issue 3, finally got to read it today....question: Do you think the heroes are still alive? I couldn't really tell if the old man was telling the truth.... I'll be disappointed if they are because I loved the premise that they were dead or, at the very least, missing with no hope of ever being seen again...
If they are and we get a new ongoing that features the survivors some supes and some sidekicks, I'd be ok with that. I'm just fearful that this thing is going to end after 8 and that we are going to get the 4 additional issue arc that was mentioned as a potential project and nothing more. There are some real amazing potential stories that could be told for years and years with these characters. JMHO

They are on a 6-week schedule. They are not late...they just aren't monthly.
That's cool ... I can live with that ... for some reason it feels like there's been more time in between issues than that which must just be my own impatience b/c I really like this book. Thanks for the info!

Hi. I'm the writer of Danger Club. I posted the below news today about the schedule. Thought I should check here and let people know about the deadline issue with #4:
http://landrywalker.blogspot.com/2012/08/danger-club-4-running-late-and-heres-why.html
Hello, comic-book-reading people.
So you might have noticed that the new issue of Danger Club is late. If you haven’t noticed, then pretend I never said anything and go about your business. For the rest of you, here’s the deal:
Several weeks ago two of colorist Michael (Rusty) Drake’s kids were hit by a truck while riding their bikes home from the store. The short version is that they are both okay. The longer version is that Rusty’s son suffered a brain contusion and his daughter an injured ankle. This meant several days of stress and uncertainty. Things are better now, and both kids are home from the hospital and receiving continued treatment.
The upshot here is that the latest issue of Danger Club is now running late. Though we hoped to catch up, life has a way of putting things on hold and we’re unwilling to replace any member of our team under such circumstances. Please rest assured that the book is well underway, and that it will be out soon. Also please understand that this does slip into our next issue's schedule and so on; a domino effect that means the next couple issues will likely also be on the late side while we rush to play catch-up.
Our apologies for the delay.
Landry Q. Walker

Our thoughts and prayers are with your friend and his family. Although this is probably not the right time, at some point in the future, please encourage him to seek advice from a trial lawyer. In the vast majority of states children are able to collect from auto insurance policies even if there is a finding that there was no negligent behavior on the driver's part (it depends on the age of the child). If he wants me to refer him to someone in his state, please let me know as I have friends and contacts across the country. Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm certain that many will send letters of sympathy and concern and all share my concern & will pray for a speedy recovery.

Fantastic review...congrats! I am so glad see this book finally getting some love! IMO, right up there with Saga as one of the best new books of the year. Such a fun book!

very very dissapointing, and saw talk about what they want to do after issue 8...i'm guessing just kill the comic and put it out of it's misery. Nothing worse than watching a promising comic stagnate with delays.

Hi all. I feel a need to respond.
First, let me please apologize for the delays -- I know they are frustrating. Second, I want to assure you all that this book is not being cancelled.
Danger Club is a labor of love; no one working on it is making any significant money on this series. Not only do comics bring in very little income, but that income needs to go first and foremost to pay Image and everyone else on the book. That's fine, we knew that going in. If we did comics because we wanted a check, we would not be doing comics.
To clarify, the sales on the TPB were good, and it stands a good chance of being reprinted -- if orders continue. If not, which is a possibility, we will stand a couple thousand dollars in debt on this series. That's where "good" sales bring us in this market.
It doesn't matter. We have a story to tell and we are going to tell it.
As frustrating as it is for the readers to wait, imagine being on this end: I'm done. I've been done. I've written this arc to its conclusion, and I want this series to be read. Why else do it? But I want it to be as close to perfect as we can manage. That means not cutting any corners. That means not bringing in fill-in talent.
We want to bring all the readers the best story possible. And while the wait is frustrating for us all, what purpose would there be in quitting? In cancelling? Because there's a delay in the schedule? It will pass. The series will continue. There will be a minimum of four more issues and another collected volume. And what this book will ultimately stand (or fall) on is its quality, not the schedule.
As for the accident: it was not worse than suggested, but brain contusions and broken bones are still serious, and they take time that would have normally been spent working on Danger Club. Then there is the fact that stress like this can have a very real corrosive effect on the creative process, and again, we want this book to be as good as it can be. If it takes a little longer to make that happen, so be it.
Moreover, it's important to understand that no one working on this book is making their living from it, and as most everyone reading this is likely to know, one small domino falling can set off a economic chain reaction that is time consuming to recover from.
This isn't a day job. It isn't a 9-5. It's what we do when everything else that must be done is taken care of. It's what we do instead of sleeping. I wish that wasn't the case. I wish the sales of this title could support multiple families -- or even just one family -- without the harsh reality of life creeping in. But even a book that sells well cannot do this.
Again: Doesn't matter. The book WILL be done. I'm sorry if it takes more time than people are comfortable with, I really am. It kills me to hear that people might give up on a title because of a delay. I share your frustration, and all I can do is assure you once more: This book is not being cancelled. We are not giving up.
Issue five is (give or take) a month away; I will be posting a preview for it in the next few days. I'm hoping that will put issue 6, 7 and 8 all on track to come out bi-monthly. I cannot promise this, but it is the target we are all working hard to meet.
Hopefully, you will all still be here with us to let us know whether you love it or hate it. The book will come out, and all I can ask is for patience.

It's to early to say - mainly from a scheduling point of view. Obviously, our main goal is to wrap up this arc. I have several different arcs I'd like to tell, one of which is a mini-series getting into the history of Micro-Tokyo. But, I just can't commit to anything right now until the schedule is normalized.
One thing I can say is that we're not going to stop in mid-story anywhere. Originally we had mapped this arc out at 6 issues but added two when I decided we needed more room. I have a definitive ending for this storyline that should hopefully leave few questions unanswered.
