Well I saw ComicLink's Winter auction included the Registry Steroid known as AMERICA'S BEST TV COMICS #nn in a sultry 9.8 condition (though it had Cream to OW pages). I threw in a bid to track it, checked the registry and saw that the 9.8 edition was worth a sweet 4200 points (as we talked about in the earlier conversation in this journal thread). I watched with interest yesterday as the price streaked past the 10:1 price of $420, over $500 to land at $559 (a respectable 7.5 points per $1). While the final price was out of my budget (I have started capping myself at around $200 a book for the time being) it did get me thinking about this challenge again.... I havent seen this book pop up on ebay in any price/grade that was appealing but the internet is a big place and I found a guy selling his CGC 9.4 copy at his own site (getslabbed.com if you want to see the site). He does a few consignments, and its actaully a pretty nice site overall. I made him an offer on the 9.4 which he accepted and I now have enroute a good lookling CGCed 9.4 copy of the book (worth 1575 points) at a price that put me just a hair under the 10:1 ratio ($160).
It has the nice benefit of being a file copy, though interestingly it also suffers from the "Cream to OW" PQ. Which makes me thing the few "White" PQs are even rarer than their more typically produced counterparts. Not sure if its just low grade paper, but the fact that a file copy had that level of yellowing make me think that the paper is the culprit rather than any exposure issue.
So the new tally:
Spend to date: $107 + 160 = $267
Registry points: 1180 + 1575 = 2755
Current Ratio 2755:267 or 10.3 to 1
My new problem? This title is part of the Registry collection "Marvel Silver Age 1st Issues (1965-1969)" with some heavy hitter books in the set (Hulk #102, Iron Man #1, Cap #100) and now I've got a hankerin' to work on the set.... hmmmm maybe it's time for a new challenge!
