I spent almost $800 on Drawer Boxes last year at the NY Convention. They replaced the BCW system which was *spoon*. The Drawer Boxes were a definite improvement. They are far from perfect, but are the best thing I've come across. They are only a few months old, but I have them stacked five wide by four high and a seperate formation of magazine sized ones for my slabs.

I was thinking about this myself. I was debating on going with legal sized filing cabinets. Can you fit two rows of books with mylars and fullbacks (SA size) on one shelf of a cabinet? Anyone know if you can put slabs in a legal sized filing cabinet?
Yes on the first question, no on the second (the shelves aren't tall enough).
Thanks for the response...I've been thinking hard on how exactly I want to organize my collection. I think I'm going to go forward with the legal size cabs for my raw books and I'm debating the idea of hand making cedar chests for my slabs. I've been told the cedar wood is very good for paper.

The bookshelf magazine holder solution only works if you have a lot of space and not a lot of books.
I don't know about that, at a certain time I had over 12,000 comics in magazine holders. I love the various ways everybody collects and stores their comics, but I just couldn't live with a room filled with boxes that remind of the ones I used when I was moving house
I found that I lost some space...and now have a pile of short & longboxes in the closet....but I do prefer this to any prior set up.
The 'progression' over the past 4 years is: 20 plus long boxes on floor & top of 10 x 4 table 5 book shelves (books stacked, most unboarded) Re-bagging/boarding all, vertical & horizontal on shelves (bottom shelves in pic still like this) Recently added magazine holders (takes per shelf count down to 190 from 250) so I agree that I've lost some capacity but the access to books is great.

By space, I mean wall space. A wall full of magazine boxes would have a footprint of say 10 feet wide by 8 inches deep (by however tall the room is.) Books are shown spine out and go across the wall.
Meanwhile, a wall of Drawerboxes would have a footprint of 10 feet wide by 26" deep. Book spines are to the left and each box contains about 200 comics.
You could probably fit 3-4X as many books in the same space.

Very nice! I'm sure everyone has their own system, the magazine holders work for me.

I have drawer boxes, the real ones, had them since there were first released. 3 wide, 3 high, with a 10th on top.
The bottom boxes shells are giving out, bending outwards. They were good for about 3 years before they started caving.
I've also come across problem with boxes tipping and falling as you pull the drawers far out.
They're neat, and work okay, but for the cost, I find it's easier to just use shelving and long boxes.
A customer that follows this board brought this thread to my attention. We are the manufacturer of DrawerBoxes(tm). (Yes, the real ones, not the knock-offs. Please do not use our brand name when referring to other products to avoid confusing people!)
Any time a customer has a problem with our products I appreciate knowing about it. Fortunately we have had very few problems over the years, usually because of incorrect stacking. But I think it is important to always stand behind our products. If Wolf_2099 or Oakman wish to contact me at Rich@CollectionDrawer.com, I am more than happy to replace the units you had problems with.
As for the tipping problem Wolf mentioned, we solved that with our BoxLox Box Anchors several years ago.
The BoxLox also eliminate the need to use boards between layers. One thing to be very cautious about if boards are used is to make sure they extend completely from the front to the back of the unit and extend completely over each end of the array. Otherwise they will cause problems. The sides of our DrawerBoxes are designed to be the load-bearing member. If the board does not extend over the sides the weight above is distributed to the center of the lower unit, not the sides, defeating the engineering. And if the boards do not fully cover the unit from front to back the weight is concentrated on only a portion of the sides.
Incidentally, while the shelving is very attractive, Sckao is correct. DrawerBoxes occupy approximately 2/3 less wall space that shelves and even more if the shelves are widely spaced. We have a local customer with an extensive collection who is handy with tools that built his own room with shelves covering all 4 walls. He is now converting to DrawerBoxes because he ran out of space. It really depends on budget, the size of your collection, and the amount of space you have. When we first developed DrawerBoxes our intent was to create a product that would enable collectors to store their collection in as little space as possible, usually a closet, and be able to close the door so it is out of sight (Wives love that part!)

Why not make them more attractive so people won't have to hide them but be proud to show them ?

I'm not sure why you think other people find them unattractive? I'm quite happy with mine. I also think your method is attractive but find it to be an accident waiting to happen to anyone that has kids or pets. Drawerboxes, or any kind of box offer much more protection than your method does. I'd need to use about three rooms to mag box the same amount of books as I have on a single wall using drawer boxes.
