My Girlfriend and I have come across this coin in storage that was given to her a while back by a close friend that has passed away sense then..

The coin immediately caught my attention, and I'm a fiend for knowing everything about anything, So I hopped on right away with my windows phone..

I spent a majority of the time we we're in the attic on my phone reading about the coin and it's history.

Anyways, Here it is.. Can anyone help me with a value at retail and auction level? Help would be greatly appreciated.

K, Finally got the pics updated.. As you can see the silver has the typical aged color you'd expect out of pure silver.. And it's in great shape other than some black tar / sticky stuff it's acquired down the line somewhere which can more than likely be removed with a dam cloth.

Anyways, Thanks again for any feed back.. Looking forward to some info on this coin.

34-d is a better date. However, the pictures dont let us determine the grade. It is likely circulated, and appears to have rim damage and maybe some environmental damage.

It is likely worth about $40-$50.

Ok, Im looking forward to some more feedback
But in the meantime I'm gonna start getting ahold of some experts tomorrow..

Also, what can I do to figure out all the key factors as far as what is going to either increase or decrease the price of this coin... I've done tons of research and have reached the conclusion, based on expert reviews that one could expect anywhere from 30$ to 2,200$ based on this coins condition...

Also it seems circulated or un-circulated is a huge factor.. How could I figure out which applies to this coin..

Last but not least, I'd like to add that my camera did not do much justice in regards to the coins condition... Its not nearly as faded and worn in person as much as my phones camera makes it out to be.

Once again, Thank You all very much!

I would look for them on this forum. \(thumbs u Your thread would have done better in the US coin section, even though you chose the proper forum by name for the coin.

Good luck

Whoa Whoa Whoa, where did you get that price range from? You need to understand that just because someone gives you a response on the internet chat room, it does not make them an expert. The person responding could be a teenage kid with less knowledge about the coin than you have!

Before you accept "expert" advice, you would be wise to vet the responses based on the credentials of the person posting that advice. There are really only two ways to do this. The best way is to hang around the forum and read all of the threads for a period of months. After doing so, it will be evident which members are knowledgeable and which are full of BS. For more instant satisfaction, make sure that the person giving you advice collects Peace Dollars. You can do this by looking up their user ID in the NGC Registry and looking for a Peace Dollar set.

My Peace Dollar collection is in the process of being disassemble and I have sold off most of my better dates.

Your Peace Dollar appears to be lightly circulated from the photos and as others have noted likely has environmental damage. If the coin is a problem coin (environmental damage) then you are looking at a coin with AU details which would be net graded to XF which would be worth $30-$40. If the coin is AU and not a problem coin, the price range is $40-$100 based on the amount of remaining luster which can't be determined by your photos. However, I would lean towards the lower AU grades (AU50-AU53).

The chances that your coin would end up in a mint state (uncirculated) holder are slim to none. And if it did, it would grade no higher than MS61, limiting the price to $150. Determining whether a coin is uncirculated is related to the presence of wear on the coin which can be seen by the interruption of the luster on the coin. It is too advanced to tackle in this post, but if you want to learn, the article linked below should explain it and the author is a very knowledgeable fellow forum member.

What You Need to Know About Wear

I think you would benefit by looking at some other Peace Dollars in the AU grades so that you can get an idea of what an AU Peace Dollar looks like. I have linked the Heritage Auction Archives of the AU 1934-D Peace Dollars below. If you want to see the prices, you will have to register, but it is free.

I agree 100% with Lehigh. Don't get too excited, you have a pretty common peace dollar with some environmental damage.

DO NOT attempt to clean your coin. Doing so will make it worth even LESS. Leave it just how it is if you want to sell if for the maximum value.
