Arsenal beat Udinese...a crucial win, needless to say.

Fulham looked like we did last season I'm not a fan of Martin Jol and nothing he's done with Fulham so far has changed my opinion.

Give him time, he did a great job at Spurs and could have taken them into Europe years ago if he wasn't sacked. Having got them close two years in a row they panicked after a bad two month spell.

I don't know, I think that based on his track record since leaving Spurs (and including the abysmal start they made that caused him to be sacked), the real Jol is the mediocre to poor coach that we see right now and the 5th place finish with Spurs was actually the fluke.

If you say so Tim! Have you followed Jol at Hamburg and Ajax?
He finished 5th in the Bundesliga and got to the semi finals of the German and Uefa cups. The league position is on par with anything Hamburg have achieved in the league throughout its recent history and was the first time since the 80's that they went so far in any cup competition, let alone both. Doing any better with Hamburg would have been tough in his first and only season
At Ajax he finished second in the league, 1 pt behind FC twente with a points total of 85. This was a huge improvement on the previous season and the 4th best points total since 1995. On top of this Ajax had a goal difference of +86, scored 106 goals (ave of 3 per game) and had the strongest defense, that year. They even won the Dutch Cup under Jol Pretty good for a mediocre to poor coah.

I think you're thinking of somebody else, Tim, as Jol has done more than fine the last few seasons.
EDIT - I see Gary got to you first...and he's not wrong.

And just to add in on the Jol appreciation front...
It was no fluke that Jol finished 5th with Spurs, as he managed the feat in two consecutive seasons.

They even won the Dutch Cup under Jol Pretty good for a mediocre to poor coah. All I can say is you guys set pretty low standards when it comes to expectations. Finishing 5th in the Bundesliga is no great shakes. As we saw from Borussia Dortmund and Schalke last season, a German club can do very well without having a big budget.
As for finishing 2nd with Ajax, that's the equivalent of Celtic or Rangers coming in 2nd in the SPL. It is the absolute bare minimum that would be expected of the biggest club in Dutch football. It was considered a huge disappointment, particularly considering that they didn't come in 2nd to PSV, but to FC Twente, which is like Celtic/Rangers coming in 2nd to Kilmarnock.
Anyways, I don't have anything personally against the guy, so it's great that he seems to have so many supporters on these boards. I just don't think he's all that and I think Fulham will do worse under him than it did under Hodgson and Hughes.
