Poor old Blackburn - who could have seen that coming once they got their new owners. I've got some sympathy for Steve Kean, but it was always on the cards. The fans have the right to feel cheated by the Blackburn board. Kudos to Wigan for staying up, as it turned out, quite comfortably. If you buy a football club just for the sake of making money the thing to do is sell of the better players who earn the high wages, don't renew the contracts of other high earners, and then promote cheap alternatives from your own academy. That's actually not a bad strategy, unless in the course of your due diligence you fail to learn about a basic principle in English football called "relegation" and strip your team so badly that they get relegated, at which point the value of your club plummets.
I'm hoping that Allardyce goes up, so we can enjoy the sight of the insufficiently_thoughtful_person Blackburn owners see their team going down while the manager they fired for no good reason comes back up.
This is where Lerner and his expert advisers have gone wrong at Villa. I think it's great to promote academy players into the first team - how may other top flight English clubs have done this on a regular basis? Not many, and clubs like Chelsea & Arsenal may as well do away with their academies - but the core of any team needs to be experienced professionals.

I`m fairly sure Lerner understood the concept of relegation, which the Venkys guys apparently didn`t.

I was talking about Blackburn - but the similarities with Villa now compared to Lerner's first few seasons are there to see.

Big name, good stadium, not loaded with debt, should be relatively cheap.
Everton`s the other club that should be an attractive takeover candidate, but their balance sheet is probably not as good as Villa`s.
