Good morning!
I'm excited and happy to announce a public sketch opp with Stephen Segovia. Despite Stephens' busy schedule, he has offered to complete some sketches and signatures for us. My thanks to Stephen and Jun for making this happen! And thanks to Joe P and CGC for the clearance!
Stephen has provided many options for us:
$70 - comicon type sketch, bust only, pen and ink with markers $140 - high detailed bust (front only) $160 - high detailed full figure (front only) $160 - high detailed bust wraparound (like Ares) $190 - high detailed full figure wraparound plus $50 extra character plus $20 background free - signature free - low quality sketch/remark
This does not include grading/shipping fees, however:
To make it easier for everyone, payments can be done in two sums. To reserve a spot, you can simply pay Stephen's fee: (insert price here) and the shipping fee: $12. This has been a success in the past and makes it easier. If you'd rather pay the entire amount, that's fine please PM me.
*********I will be collecting the CGC grading/shipping fees when your book is complete and at CGC**********
For this opp, the commission payment and shipping fee are all you need to reserve a spot.
Signatures: Free! You only pay grading and shipping! Nice!
**************WE ARE LIMITED TO 11 SPOTS!**************
And to go back to what Jun said, Stephen is busy but will take on the commissions for us. I want to thank Stephen for taking the time out of his schedule to complete these. And thank you Jun for helping out and making it happen, much appreciated!
Sketch cover and books will be mailed to me. Available blanks have been listed
Here are examples of his comicon type sketches:
Here are his detailed bust wraparound examples. I've shown these already but I can't stop looking at them:
And I don't think there are any full figure sketch cover examples out there...who will make history and have the first ever graded full figure by Stephen Segovia?
Please post at 11am est to be fair to all. Thank you

Wow much appreciated everyone!!!
I can ask about a standby list, I will PM all on standby individually.
And I will post the shipping address in a few, makes it simple
Please send all paypal payments to mjeter4@live.com. The sooner we get the books to Stephen the sooner we can start this opp! Congrats to all, this should be amazing!
***Please use the gift option when making payment if possible, thank you****
I am mad at everybody that got into this opp. Hate that my job blocks the board.
on the standby list.
I almost got *spoon* blocked by my First Sergeant. He had to need something from me right at 1100 on the dot. By the time he got done talking it was 1105. I just barely got in as the number 11 jumper!

The detail is unbelievable! Veins, shading and costume creases on Spidey are amazing! Look at this hand ... even the fumes from Goblins glider are great! Why oh why must I missed this opp

I made it my desktop image. Who's the goblin looking dude trying to jump on Spidey?

Looks like The Jackal. And no glider the Ultimate Goblin is more like a Hulk who can throw flames.
Congrats to all that got in....I was watching for the 11 oclock start time and noticed, oh smack! they started, just a hair too late, which is cool...glad my brother got in though (kyden), we are super newbies....his second sketch and I'm still looking for my first. Very cool that these get offered, so thanks to those who keep making it happen. Anxiously awaiting the next opps!!
Waltz41, I know Matt Slay is still taking commissions. Great art, but not a big name if you're cool with that. You also get to watch him work on your cover to music while he talks to you the whole time via live feed.
That is still a great cover, though I agree with Force that I like the B&W sketch better - which is rare. I'm considering revising my request to be a recreation of that, or even just adding a third character (Jackel) and letting him run with it. I have a wrap around and I'm wondering with all that space if it would be better with more than just two characters.
Edit: I just looked at the high res and I like the color version just as much.

Yeah there are some really cool opps out there still, but I'm very limited fund wise right now and for my 'first' would love to get someone who has drawn on a comic I've read or a character I like (no offense to all the other artists out there!) I missed out on ramps too, I'm just keeping my eyes peeled on here....gotta love the thrill of the hunt! (But eventually you gotta get something right!!) And congrats for getting in USArmyparatrooper.

Hello
I was giving praise to the boardies that have been PM'ing and getting their information in to me. I've had issues with this in the past.
I take opps very seriously, as people are sending their hard-earned money to me. Both the artist and the customer are trusting me to deliver. This is my main concern, comments aren't that much of a priority when you compare the two. I hope you see my point Thanks!
Slightly OT---my company Dark Empire Inks will be set up at table A31 in Baltimore! Please stop by and say hello!

No worries at all, thanks for joining us!
Sorry for delays...
Ok so I was asked to clarify some things:
Stephen wanted everyone to know that the examples of covers he's done are on 11x17 board and while he will do detailed full figure sketch commissions, these will not be at the same level of detail of his covers/ 11x17 commissions.
And I'll be sending Jun and Stephen a list asap, as he wants to sse what requests are made. I'm here to help anyone out with a plan B request if Stephen cannot complete your first request. Sorry for the reporting, but I'd rather get this taken care of now than on the day Stephen begins working on a specific request. Any concerns or questions please PM me, Thank you

Thank you for the update. Also you previously said you don't think they'll be colored, did you confirm that?
Yes, exactly what Mr. Mylar said. Regarding colors, I will send details to Mr. Mylar, he'll be the one to arrange this. For all other concerns please contact Mr. Mylar with your concern / questions so we can fix this now to avoid encountering unnecessary problems later on.

Thanks so much for all your help on this one, absolutely can't wait to see the final product!
You were working your butt off at WW Chicago this weekend (thanks for all the help with getting sketches witnessed) and trying to work out some possible new opps for the boards, so after seeing Mike in action this past weekend, I have every confidence that this will be a spectacular opp!!!

Quick update:
1 book was switched and remailed, received it yesterday. I am mailing out both packages to Stephen today
There have been concerns about the upcoming Hurricane and the mailing/shipping systems. I'll go with the consensus here: should I wait it out until after the hurricane or mail today? Thoughts?

We might be delayed by the hurricane? That blows. muahahahha get it?
In all seriousness, I don't know enough about the postal system to know the risks that are involved, so I can't form an intelligent opinion on that one.

They told us to evacuated flood areas and the shore. Im dead center also..hoping we should be good to go
See? THIS is what sketch covers should be about. A great artist showing off his art. Not doodling on your comic and then saying, "I'm such a big name that will be $500 please"

Stephen-Can't wait to see what you do with my request. Thanks for doing these for us! I've been wanting to get a commission from you for awhile now and when this came up it was perfect timing. Looking forward to your Thor mini.
Hello Stephen! I'm a huge fan of your work. Don't hate me, but I'm the guy who probably garnered the response, "He wants me to draw what?"
On that note I PM'd your rep three alternatives if my initial request was too much to put on a cover. If you have any questions Mylar can shoot me a PM as I check them frequently.

I have one that's waiting to be sent to CGC from Matt Slay, and I'm still waiting on one from Anthony Castrillo
I'm new to comic art and I was curious, it looks like it it was done with colored pencils? I can see subtle shades of color but it doesn't appear to be copics.

yea my first sketch ever was a djurdjevic sketch that Alex Sinclair colored in 2009 at NYCC... Did that already but thanks
my point is....I won't get the Finch colored. I think it takes away from all the time and effort he put in to the heavy pencil detail. I'd leave it as is
don't get me wrong, color sketches are amazing. They pop out and look really nice. But if an artist spent hours drawing lines and details, I want to appreciate that as well. Just my humble

I must admit when I read "Doctor Doom and the Wasp" a few pages back, I was thinking "Doctor Doom and the Wasp? " Now that I've seen the sketch, I MUST HAVE DOCTOR DOOM AND THE WASP! What an awesome, awesome sketch!
I give this hot sketch the Marvelfangirl stamp of approval
Thanks everyone! I had an idea what I wanted on the commission, but I had NO idea that it would turn out this incredible! Thanks Mr. Mylar for getting this together, and thanks to Stephen for some really, really incredible stuff!! I'm in awe ... I can't wait to have it in hand.

Still have it, any chance Danny will ever do more? Mr Pym is a good friend of mine by the way.
Stephen will be delayed for a few days on this as Marvel wants him to revise a few pages. I will keep you guys updated and post pics of new sketches once I get them.
Seriously if Segovia isn't considered A-list he should be. He's at least as good as any big name, and so far he's been amazingly consistent. There are others who also do great work, but most of them will still do some commissions that are just OK.
I'm changing his name to Stephen 'Midas' Segovia, because everything he touches comes out gold.

I agree 100%. It's great that Stephen is working at Marvel and Marvel needs to do a new "Young Guns" program and spotlight Stephen, Harvey, Mico, Gerald. These guys are the next wave of fantastic artists that Marvel has working for them. I see these guys as the next Coipel's Yu's, McNiven's etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Stephen ends up on one of Marvel's summer events in the next year or two. And Mico and Gerald can more than take over for Marko D. on covers since he has quit his Marvel covers gig. These guys are the next wave and we have been lucky enough to get them for sketch covers before Marvel throws a ton of work at them!
+1 on everyone's comments. His work on all levels is incredible. I keep going back to my commission sketch of Dr. Doom and the Wasp. Even the detail on Wasp's hair perfectly matches the scene, and her eyes? I don't think anyone would or could capture the "moment" better. The action and power in his scenes scream at you. Wow, just wow ... and that's a total understatement.

Hey everyone
Overdue update for this opp
Once again I thank you guys for participating in this opp. But I also wanted to thank Stephen He confirmed getting back to the sketches this month
But I just wanted to express my opinion about the speed of completion of opps and artists and general
Stephen(and Harvey, Mico and Gerald) work for Marvel comics. Pages have to be done by deadlines. And if the pages aren't to the satisfaction of the powers that be, Marvel asks for and expects revisions
That being said, I ask for patience with the artists regarding the opps. They took the covers on despite their deadlines and busy schedule. I think it's unfair to say "speed=success" with sketch opps. Some sketches can be completed, but if they're rushed then there will be regrets

Thanks for listening to my Books are coming soon!
Stephen says sorry for the delay in updates. His deadline for Thor issue 4 has been pushed by Marvel due to Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year. Issue 2 and 3 are both done already, he's just wrapping up issue 4 and will get back on track with the opp. asap. Like Mr. Mylar, I wouldn't want him rushing the opp. as I do not want rushed sketches. Anyway, just sharing a recent quickie sketch he did for me last week at an event:

Hey quick update
So Stephen is finishing the last issue of the Thor mini-series for Marvel. Once complete he'll start working on our books again
Here are the next 2 books:
Ultimate Punisher Punisher
And I wanted to ask, is everyone okay with waiting until he completes these books to send as one batch to CGC? Or should we ask him to ship the books he's completed already? That way this batch will get into the system
We were also thinking about asking Stephen to accept another batch of books as people are asking for another round. This will speed up things as well
But whatever everyone decides is fine, please let me know. My thanks to everyone involved!

My opinion is whatever works best for Stephen, yourself and the entire opp in general (and future opps). You make the call. I don't think anyone would mind him holding onto them until they're all done. Thanks again!

But whatever everyone decides is fine, please let me know. My thanks to everyone involved!
My opinion is whatever works best for Stephen, yourself and the entire opp in general (and future opps). You make the call. I don't think anyone would mind him holding onto them until they're all done. Thanks again!

I just want to say of every sketch cover artist I've ever seen, Segovia is the best. It's clear he puts his heart and soul into every single drawing. Some artists just bang them out and save the effort for the publishers, Segovia takes pride in his work even for us little people.

Got this from my LCS. Didn't expect it to be this good (for the price I paid for it)! Any chance I can get this CGC'd? Im from the Philippines, maybe I can send it along with the rest of Stephen's sketch opps haha
Mike, ill say it again, i think that this Segovia opp may be the best opp that the signature room has ever seen. the amount of detail that goes in to each piece, whether bust or full figure, is astounding. Just like to take the time to give you another well deserved round of applause

Glad you guys like them!
And thank you Arjuna much appreciated! But we are small fries in the SS sketch opp world!
If Jun and I can pull off what we are trying to do in March however, I may have to upgrade to supersize!
