Hey Joe, I have read your posts with a lot of interest. Of course, you are my arch-nemesis when it comes to Super Stories, but I have enjoyed every bit of the hunt and trying to find acquisitions. (And yes, the registry and this competition have driven me to chase upgrades that I wouldn't have otherwise spent the money on, see my recent purchase of the #1.) Of course I have rarely (if ever) come out ahead when we have both gone after a book, but that goes with the territory and I know I'm not the only one with that sob story. I have a huge amount of respect for your set, and it has really set the bar high for me to shoot for. I, for one, would hope that you wouldn't delist the Super Stories set when you are done. For one thing, I don't want to get to #1 that way, and aside from that any completed high grade set compiled with love and respect for the books is a thing of beauty that should be seen by other collectors. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! [/quote]
See to me thats somewhat messes with the spirit of things, we both love SSS, we will probably both have complete 9.8 runs at some point, thats great. Its like we cant both have the same bicycle, if I have one I am delighted you can have one as well.
From my experience, its more fun to chase the number 1 than to try to cling onto the lead. So enjoy the hunt, but hopefully we will have a run of near perfect copies.
As opposed to an Arch Nemesis, think of me being on point, taking the first bullet in price for you, then you can come in and get the next one at half the price I paid, worked well for the #1 issue.

I think we can "both have the same bicycle" as you put it. We will both eventually have complete sets of SSS, but yours will probably be the only 9.8 unless that grade becomes a lot more obtainable for this title. I don't really see that happening if the current status quo holds, as ANY graded copies of some books are really tough and 9.8s are very hard. I'm perfectly happy to take the occasional 9.4 to work towards completing, but will always try to upgrade when I can.
It is fun to chase #1, but you seem to have the uncanny ability to make a purchase a few days after I do! I can't seem to get any closer than about 450 points.
You have taken point on quite a few purchases, and I appreciate your perspective on the #1. I still paid above my comfort zone for it, but that was a vast improvement over when that book was at a price point that I would never have paid for it. I know that in highsight I took a bath on many a SSS purchase, but this is one of those cases where collectors will buy at a price they are willing to pay to have a book in ther collection and not as an investment for flipping.

So I think this is a very interesting point, and something that drives me nuts from time to time.
Flipping. I have to run off to lunch but will edit and expand my thoughts on this later

remember you have a bunch of 9.6 books that I now wish I had
As I have done with others if I find one that I have and you dont I will always let you know amigo
I appreciate that. Many of the books that I have and you don't I found on eBay before I had ever heard of the registry and was just trying to complete the set. Only a few are from Clink or Worldwide, and you have beaten me to many books on Worldwide's site recently. There are a few on eBay currently, but I think you have them all (but check and see if you don't troll there regularly for SSS).

all this scanning and editing, and posting takes some time.
I am waiting for the dealer / web site that will automatically email you a copy of their scan when you buy the book. Most of the time the dealers have great scanners, I would certainly pay 25 cents for that, save me a lot time scanning, but they have the file so why not do it automatically.
Comiclink has the best scans for copying - I do that for all post auction wins.
Metropolis has great scans that go up to huge detail, sometimes way too much, like hi-def porn (as I have heard), I dont always want to see that much detail. Usually I am on the phone to Frank trying to get some/any discount on the book, then once we have a price the book scan disappears immediately, so I have to bug him to email me the scan. Which he does and I am grateful for.
HA, is curious, you have to pic the level of scan you want to copy, the small is not useful of course, the next up medium is quite good and then the go huge again like Metro, which I do think they (and Metro are to be commended on), so generally I copy the medium. That works fine.
HA has a nice feature of "your comic collection" where they list all the books you have brought from them, some books retain their scans, others do not, I cant work it out, the most pricey book has the scan, but the next one down does not, then some cheapo books have the scan. Seems to be kind of random.
WWComics - pretty much my favorite official dealer due to my trust of Stephen and Matt, the scans are pretty much uncopyable (is that a word?), I suspect they will fix that with the new web site.
Pedigree - again, the scan is very copyable, which is great, but sometimes the book disapears, I may by something then it just goes. Hard to know what the deal is sometimes. It may appear on recent sales.
Ebay - all over the place, sometimes a great scan you can copy, other times, hopeless.
I would love it if all the dealers in the 'about us' section or something list the name of the scanner they use and the software. I know a lot of people would like to know.
Same goes for scanning Original Art (OA) , I think those scanners would only be found at someones work (if they are in some arty job), my fairly large HP Scanjet 8250 can not do OA.
Also I think Roy was trying to get a post attached to the boards regarding scanners, what people need is a list with some bullet points, not a necessarily a huge discussion of things, just scanners that work.
