QUESTION:

Nickel is now a standard metal used in coinage, but this wasn’t always the case.

What was the first known use of Nickel in coinage?

Our first place winner will receive a copy of The Official Red Book,
A Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins

There will also be a runner up prize given to a randomly selected player with the correct answer.

REMINDER: The Numisma-Quest ends on Saturday at midnight EST. Entries after that time will not be valid. See the Trivia info post for more details.

When you post your answer, only the administrators can see it. Stop back this Tuesday. We will make all the posts visible and announce the winners.

More than 2,000 years ago, a copper alloy containing around 20% nickel appeared in the form of coins in Bactria, a province of southern Russia.

If that's too far back, then I'm going with 1850 by Switzerland

I believe the first nickel found in coinage was from the Kingdom of Bactria about 180 BC.

Baktrian nickel coins, Nickel didrachms with a alloy of approx 25% Nickel and 75% Copper, were coined in the 2nd century BC.
