Dale RobertsDale Roberts A custom title just because Arch looked at my post count when it was exactly 7777? Wow. Lucky day. Whoo. I'm rockin' now... Yah.
I don't really have an idea whiat this piece is worth. Obviously if you are talking to a bunch of guys who have never even spent 2K on a piece of artwork, then the price is ridiculous, if you are offering it to someone who has millions of dollars and he wants it, then I don't think it is unrealistic.
Oddly enough, some of the guys at the convention were talking about what the original art for the AF #15 cover would go for. I personally think it would pull 500K to a million.
Basically it would be one of THE true grail pieces, along with Action #1, Detective #27, 31, Marvel #1, Cap #1, Phantom Lady #17, FF #1, Showcase #4 if they were available.
I heard for years that if anyone owned it, it was probably Gil Kane, but the piece has never surfaced from his estate.

It's 100% him. You can see the slightly shaky line quality in the reproductions he did at that time. They're still nice pieces though! "Other hands" in his final work only came from inkers, some of whom trued up the pencils, some who let it lie as is.
And I believe the consensus is that Marie Severin had the originals, not Gil Kane. He passed away some time ago, and the art was donated last year IIRC.
