Not me, but my good friend is a programmer with IBM in Tucson. Due to be laid off in a month or so. Are you still up to you elbows in your work?
Some day I'll let you come watch. Then you can change your name to "The_Brown_Hand"

Then you can change your name to "The_Brown_Hand" Doctors and Nurses have the best sense of humor. With the way things are going I'm thinking of changing it to that myself. My fortune teller told me that there's going to be some Botox in my future.

"If it's not disclosed...you're being hosed." Who coined that phrase? Me, damnit! And it's still true. "Into my heart an air that kills,From yon far country blows What are those blue remembered hills,What spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content,I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went and cannot come again." Nothing I say is intended to be a factual statement.

So it looks like I'll be joining the ranks of the unemployed as of 3/27. My company, Sprint, is reducing it's IT and network operations staff by 40% (about 3800 people). My entire job class has been outsourced to EDS. That effects 32 people I work with day-to-day. I have a chance to work for EDS on the Sprint account but I think it's time for me to move on.
So I guess I get a 30 week paid vacation.

I'm not sweating it. I've already got some leads and some things in the works.
Now that answer might change come October.

Well, I've been laid off since April 2008. Care to guess my chances, at 58, of finding an IT job in San Francisco? Apparantly not too good, despite an exceptional resume. Maybe too exceptional. But I have NO Microsoft certs. Because anyone who is really good in the IT field knows that Microsoft certs are meaningless. And I refuse to take them because i know I will fail them. Because they are meaningless. And the direction they take you does not solve problems. Only real life experience solves problems. And, more importantly, PREVENTS problems. Such things are not covered in the MS Certs. So a year form now you may see me on the street playing my sitar for pennies. Who knows?

I only have 2 MCSE's because I was either pushed by my employer to get them or the company was offering to send us to training. But you're right - no one cares about them in the real world. If you do decide to take them, just remember if one of the answers is something about standing up another Microsoft DNS/DHCP or AD server it's gotta be right. Always be closing. I'll never forget one stupid NT4 TCP/IP question involved a scenario where the right answer was to setup a minimum 256k connection from one major city to the other and the right answer involved multi-linking multiple dial-up connections. No, not a fractional T-1 64k channels, but multiple 28.8 dialups. You know, like people did/do in the real world.
