Back in June we had a number of different artists submit their version of the Man of Steel in honour of his 70th birthday and to honour his co-creator, Joe Shuster, for whom the Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards have been named.
42 pieces were submitted, and were displayed twice as an art exhibit - once on June 14th on the date of the presentation of the 4th Annual Joe Shuster Awards, and again on November 2nd as part of the Speakeasy Comic Art show in Toronto.
Starting tonight, we will begin auctioning off the pieces on eBay as part of our fundraising efforts for the 2009 Awards.
11 auctions start tonight (Monday Nov. 24)- artists included are: Francis Manapul Scott Chantler Jeff Lemire Alexander Perkins Sam Agro Eric Kim Ryan Snook Colin Upton Agnes Garbowska Ed Northcott Dave Sim
11 auctions start tomorrow night (Tuesday Nov. 25) - artists included are: Marcus To Gabriel Morrissette Fiona Smyth Dave Ross Ty Templeton Michael Cho Kent Burles Tom Grummett Noel Tuazon Greg Hyland Todd McFarlane
Except for three pieces, all of the initial offerings are no reserve auctions, with a starting price of $49.99. We'll be doing some more next week as well.
Please note: We have set reserves for the Sim, McFarlane and Grummett contributions that we feel are fair for pieces of this quality.
Please take a look, and hopefully something there will catch your eye.
All monies raised from the sale of these pieces, after fees are paid, goes towards next year's awards.
I will be selling these under my own eBay userid "kevthemev" instead of the low feedback "joe_shuster_awards" id.
Auctions start at 8PM EST (both nights) and finish before 9PM EST.
Here's a link to my store. JSA art will be listed under a new store category "Joe Shuster Awards Art Auctions":
"Yeah, yeah. He thinks being a Dungeon Master gives him a license to mess with our heads."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Perhaps I should let you encounter kittens and grandmas so as to not upset you."
Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory is forever.

We do have everything scanned and there is some talk of a collection/sketchbook in the future, but it's difficult to get permission from DC for these types of things.

First 11 have now been up for a couple of hours, and I see there's already some action on the Manapul, Lemire and Sim pieces. Some photobucket hiccups have been fixed.

Add Scott Chantler, Alexander Perkins, and Agnes Garbowska to the mix of pieces with some action. Love that Agnes piece.

I noticed that you did! I think you may have some competition on the Agnes... I know a couple of people who love that piece! I'm quite fond of the Chantler one myself.
The next 11 are prepped and ready for tonight.... Michael Cho even sent a new, higher quality scan for his piece. I've got to head home and update the photobucket scan (can't do that here at work) so the new one loads appropriately.
Of course, the big piece tonight is the highly requested Todd McFarlane. I can only reiterate that we were unusually blessed to receive such great support and encouragement from Todd's office. His assistant Jennifer really needs to be thanked for her assistance in bringing this to his attention and following up with him about completing it in time for the gallery show.

BTW these are just the first 22 contributions --- I have 20 more pin-ups to list next week, plus we're hoping to get a few additional last minute contributions this weekend at the one-day show.
I've also got a Superman head sketch jam piece on the inside of the Superman 400 portfolio sleeve (a contribution from collector Ang Sim) which so far has only four headshots on it, but I'll be getting more added to it this weekend as well.
Nothing as expensive as the Sim or the McFarlane though!
