This 5.0 ended at $502...I wonder what a 9.0 would bring. Maybe 5K ??. GOSH I would love to own a decent copy of this one.

In my opinion, both of those prices are steals. I simply don't understand why this book doesn't sell for more. It's silly for me to question the market, but it's a very tough book to find in decent shape.

You might be a little biased. ;\) The undercopy seemed like a very good deal to me. Too bad I'm not in the market for one.

I agree...I think this all comes down to Genre......pre-code Horror just isn't even close to being very warm, much less hot right now. If things ever turn around, this book would be in the top 5 on most collectors list ( IMO ). As a previous Pre-code collector, I can tell you that this book is a "biggie". It virtually never surfaces in high grade, and is tough to find in almost any grade. As for an inspiration to write SOTI, it doesn't get any better than this!

If the buyer sits on this books long enough, he could see quite a wonderful return assuming the market comes back to its old days of glory. This books high demand ( within the Genre ) reminds me of Mister Mystery #12, although I like the cover art to this issue much better....more 'shocking'

Steve

I agree, great prices for the buyers on both. If I was currently able to buy books for my own collection, the 5.0 would have gone for more than $500. \:\(

The only bias I might have is that I already have a copy of this book and think it's the premier pre-code horror book. If I knew these two books were up for auction, I likely would have bid. I am neither the owner nor seller of either of them.

Agreed.... pre-code horror is deader than a doornail now. I'm surprised that it has stayed this way for years.

I'm especially surprised at the 5.0 copy price - haven't folks paid that or more for a raw VG?

The 6.5 price is a little less surprising - I imagine the $1K barrier still meets a lot of resistance from pre-code collectors, unless it's truly high grade.
