Yes, you are understanding it correctly. It appears that NOD feels (is that possible?) that the logo is a trademark infringement. Doc's logo was removed post haste. Of course I find it interesting that a NOD member can have a Graphic Link in his sigline, but other mere mortals cant. I also love the fact that questions about the interpretation of the boards policy, appear to, fall on deaf ears.
It isn't trademark infringement. It is fair use and is protected by the First Amendment as a parody.
If anyone gets sued for using the NOE logo, call me. I'll defend you for free.
I thought the same thing - parody - after a friend brought this thing to my attention. Have to wonder who "blowed the whistle" on this one.
And really have to wonder how CGC felt that someone had a legal leg to stand on. Makes me shudder and lose respect for both CGC and Network Of Disclosure.
Any thoughts I had of joining Network Of Disclosure are gone.
That's unfortunate. Despite the fact I've personally been villiified by a couple of NOD knuckleheads on their boards, the vast majority of their membership are still great people who want to promote a worthwhile agenda and vision for the hobby.
I guess its like being a decent, law-abiding muslim in a world where only your fanatical brethren make the headlines, and for all the wrong reasons.

That is one of the worst comparative examples I have ever read. If I were a fanatical Muslim, I would take great offense.

It appears that one or more apples engaged in fraudulent misrepresentation when they claimed authority to speak on behalf of NOD. However, If they had the authority & the Board was unaware then some tweaking might be in order through resolution. If that isn't forthcoming or if the unauthorized fruit isn't reprimanded appropriately, then it might be time for the good apples to jump barrel.
I think Bill's response was fair and obviously represented that NOD did not make an official complaint. This turned into much ado about nothing which could have been completely avoided if instead of a knee jerk reaction (which it is now 100% clear it was), someone actually checked with NOD leadership. Plus, the "law" stated was also wrong. Blind removal is fine (and that's fine as a policy since these are CGC's boards), but let's not pretend like there's some rational thought behind it.
This isn't NOD's fault and my thought is that they will take internal steps to make sure that this sort of mis-communication is not repeated in the future.

Magnificent 7? I cannot confirm or deny its existence.
The NOE logo is not permissible on the message board due the restrictions placed on the use of registered trademarks owned by NOD. The Certified Collectibles Group removal of this logo conforms to widespread practice regarding formal complaints made by the owners of registered marks.
The company or individuals who own these marks are not factors in moderation policy. As we rely on the earnestness and determination of rights owners who feel their property is being infringed upon or otherwise misappropriated, we strongly encourage members to contact the NOD directly if they feel the NOE logo was satire or otherwise fair use.
This practice is applied universally regardless of the organization or company who registers a formal complaint. Please respect our efforts to enforce trademark registrant’s property rights.
