I am not a frequent poster on these boards - I think this is my third - but something happened today that really disturbed me.

Three days ago I informed Comiclink that three of the books they have on their Spetember Focused auction are on the Ewert review (i.e., possibly trimmed) list, yet there is no disclosure. I checked the auctions again last night and the books were still up for auction and still do disclosure. I callled them back this a.m. I was told that Josh's position is that Ewert likely got thousands of books graded and the ones that were actually trimmed are probably a small fraction of the total. He also said that it really shouldn't matter because if there is anything is ever to be found wrong with the books, he will refund the money.

I think the ethics here are deplorable. If I know that 1 in 100 of the homes I sold and built during a certain period was going to fall apart and be worthless, I would certainly ensure that I'd found the bad ones before potentially passing them on to my customer - especially when the customers are people I want to sell more homes to.

And in terms of the money back guarantee, I bet comic book businesses go out of business every quarter of every year. What if the buyers of these books are folks new to the hobby, unaware of the Ewert scandal? How will they feel about the hobby when it blows up when they go to re-sell the books?

I would like for someone to make me feel good about ComicLink's position on this. Until and unless they do, I can tell you that ComicLink has just lost a loyal customer in me.

You'll get a lot of posters here defending ComicLink, because they've 'never had a bad deal'. However, I can tell you that this position is of absolutely no surprise to me. At the time the Ewert scandal broke, Josh came on the boards and claimed that he only had one Ewert book listed on CL at the time.

His record keeping must have been in total disarray for him to have missed the other hundreds....

220, 222, 223 according to my check of the Ewert list.

Anyone going to weigh in on the lack of action from ComicLink once I informed them of the issue?

To be fair, you're someone with three posts, and you want us to totally accept your version of the conversation you had with CL.

Right now, you're basically the equivalent of an anonymous source. I'd like to hear CLs version of your conversation first, before making any judgements. Or give us some additional credentials of your own.

It does not look good, I admit, to see these books sitting in the auction. But I need more info on this situation.

One question I would ask is......who consigned these books to ComicLink? Where did they come from?

I feel his guarantee to make good if ever the book is found to be hokey absolves him of trying to pull anything or acting unethically.

However, I also think it would be better business to just refuse to accept any "Ewert-suspect" books for sale auction. You might lose a few sales but you avoid any criticisms like these and any headache down the line.
