It's one year to the day that the Jason Ewert scandal was brought to light on these boards. And where are we at as a result...

- No formal charges have been filed against Ewert despite many grand promises. I'm not holding my breath some are forthcoming. Another in a long line of big talk with no action to back it up...

- Collectors still do not have a formal list of that Ewert books have been potentially tainted. I know some of you have used the potential for litigation to defend CGC not releasing the info...but after a year of non-action on that front it seems the excuse is nothing but that...an excuse...

- No formal Forum review board has been established despite promises by Steve Borock that one would be instituted quickly

- Widespread manipulation of unpressed comics continue and has probably acceleralated since the scandal

- The image database has never materialized

- CGC still hasn't released what concrete action they've taken to ensure an Ewert situation doesn't reoccur. How exactly can CGC detect that Ewert type manipulation has occurred on a comic without a scan to compare...again?

These are only a few of a whole list of unfulfilled questions that came out of the Ewert scandal. Looking back it seems not much has changed at all despite grand promises...

Jim

Nerf: Is this going to be one of those threads that will earn you a special nerdy personal title if you don't do exactly what it says???

Architecht: Maybe

Actually, it seems CGC's detection program consists of using free labor from this board to do their work for them

And no charges ever will.
No court will ever touch this case.
Other than a case of low value fraud what crime did he commit?
Unless its a large value no courts will touch it

It's by no surprise that nothing has been done. Whom does it benefit. Surly not CGC. Not until there is a material impact on the company will they take action.

Let me ask a question regarding the creation of a digital image database. Why do you need to create something that already exists?

Consider this before you say "well I've been told there's no such animal". The reason why the company may already have one is quite simple...it's called CYA. Yes that's right. You need to legally cover your behind from potential lawsuits arising from the damage done to a book during the grading and encapsulating process. One possible piece of evidence needed to counter any lawsuit could be a digital image. So the book is imaged coming in and the book is imaged going out. Good business sense, wouldn't you say?

BTW... the system was probably well in place before the company opened their doors. It's just not being used for the purpose which you suggest.

Good summary Jim. I for one would rather see someone give me the middle finger than tell me things that don't get done. At least it's an honest response. I love CGC but nothing to date has been accomplished on this matter. At least what can be quantified through actions and not words.

To date, if you want to protect the hobby, it will be because of each person's due dilligence and communicating to the community...luckily these boards accomplish that end--and for that I am at least grateful for.
